This is nothing new. It runs in cycles, but gangbangers have been seeking military training since at least WWII.

The 1970s to early 80s was really, really bad I understand...

I wasn't...

Obviously recruiting the poor to fight the chickenhawk's War is a staple of the all-volunteer military.

But the US Army doesn't really want gangs. Even the French Foriegn Legion has stopped taking anyone with a serious criminal record. You can't get into the Army with a criminal record, although obviously gangers get in...

And the truth is that most killed in Iraq are middle class whites...

I didn't say it was worthless necessarily.

I just mean you need to be more precise in your thread...

And I practically carried a gun in the shower when I was in. There are some creepy motherfuckers serving. And yes, women in uniform are far more likely to face abuse from neanderthals than they would in a comparable civilian occupation.

But part of the problem is the completely alien middle eastern culture. At least they had mammazons, beer, and prostitutes in Vietnam!

And if may offer a "defense" of the US military in Iraq: they act with far more discipline than many armies of history, and even contemporary ones. And I'm including the US Army sent to North Africa during Operation Torch in WWII in this assessment.

US troops have done some shitty things, Abu Ghraib (which was not only a single 'incident,' but rather an exemplar of an entire chronically understaffed system of detention which led to an even more powerful insurgency).

It's important to note that US soldiers have also STOPPED rapes, by preventing Iraqi "security forces" access to Sunni women.

And US soldiers that have committed rapes or Iraqi girls have been prosecuted, and even sentenced to death I believe...

The guy in that video seems like he is telling the truth. And if that is the real truth and the whole truth then I also have a problem with our millitary. However, I also get the feeling that there is more to the stories. I just can't believe that American soldiers are going around slaughtering innocent families on purpose and at point blank range and getting away with it.

Of course it has happened a couple times at least and those soldiers have been brought to justice. I can't beleive it is coming from the higher ups to tell the soldiers to behave in this manner though.
