Much as I am a fan of Nugent's music, it's hard to take any thoughts of a man who wrote "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang" seriously.

What's next, Bret Michael's thoughts on International Terrorism?

FORD, if everybody who threatened a presidential candidate or president with physical harm went to jail, about half of the people who post over at the DU would have been arrested by now.

The people who are arrested for threatening George W. Bush are few and far between. If a sick fuck can make a movie about an assassination attempt on Bush and say it's 'entertainment', then anything is possible.

I agree entirely. And the other great thing about living in a democracy is that we can all chose to ignore that statements as idiotic as Nugent's.

Good grief! If only someone documented this for a film!

Ted is sensationalism from his head to his toes. He always has been. You can't take much seriously from him at all.

BUT, he did make a couple of good points in defending himself from this "bad" press. (which I thoroughly thinks he enjoys)

He said: "Did anyone expect Sam Kinison to explain his jokes? Did anyone expect Richard Pryor to explain his jokes? Well, back then the answer would be 'no', but were they working in this day and age, how would they be treated by society?"

And he's right about that. Of course, I don't equate what he does to the comedy genius of Sam or Richard, but he's right in that their comedy was absolutely offensive. Try some of their jokes today and what would happen? It's like as we try to pretend to be more open, we start to look at most everything under a magnifying glass.

Do I think Ted was making a threat? No.
I think he's like an unsupervised child who was trying too hard to entertain his audience and just went too far.

Running because you are afraid to die sounds sane to me.
I am a vet , but as a teenager facing possibly being drafted if the war continued scared the shit out of me.
I was 21 when i joined and had enjoyed some adult life.
But if they had drafted me at 18 ,I might have ran too.
I would never disrespect the troops who sacrificed so much wether it was a just cause or not.
If the situation was the same as WW2 , I would have dropped out of school to get them fuckers.
Teds actions considering his political views now were completely out of line.

The draft stopped when I was about 16 ,even though most or all of our troops had been recalled from nam [except the MIAs] the thought of a rekindling of the [police action] was on a lot of guys my ages mind.
Most of them were on the fence .
We loved America [and smoking as much weed as possible] but I think what scared us most was the haircut , If we could have kept our long hair and still killed commies it might have sounded a little better.
The WW2 remark meant if our country was attacked like Pearl Harbor
My pot smoking buddies and myself would have been running to the recruiter instead of asking him [who cut your hair?].

The draft ended in 1973, and although I'm lousy at math - I'm pretty sure that makes you a worry-wart of a a "13-year old white boy."

LOL I can't think of a more fitting thread for the above picture...

Can entertaining audiences go any farther than that?

No, like an unsupervised child that went too far. You know the kind of "go too far" that usually ends up with a bloody nose and many tears?

I probably didn't get my point across. Sometimes me brain thinks faster than my fingers can make sense of...

Yes I Am A white boy.
But my brothers best friend was a white boy who was drafted to nam and came home in a body bag.
You might be right about the draft stopping in 73 but I still had to register at 18 .
As I stated you never know when your government is going to decide you should fight or die for their agendas and Viet Nam was still the top story then.

:D I'm not trying to give you any shit bro. I'm just a bit of a military/Vietnam-era buff and I wanted to clarify that...

Sorry to hear about your brother's friend.

We all had to register for selective service, and they began to crack down more in the 1980s...
