George Soros started the Quantum Fund that was a very successful in foriegn investments. Mr. Soros escaped the Nazi occupation of his home country Hungary and deffected from Communist rule to Great Britian and then immigrated to the US in the late 50's. He started the Quantum Fund with the goal of making himself $500,000 but the fund in a decade made billions and George became one of the richest men in the US.
Mr. Soros has been more than generouse financially supporting groups that oppossed communist rule and has spent millions helping democracy take hold in Eastern Europe.
Mr. Soros is no fan of George W. Bush and spent millions trying to keep Bush out of office. Mr. Soros once said he would spend his whole fortune to keep Bush out of office if he knew it would work.
Mr. Soros has a global view of the world and is a believer in what he calls and open society where the govt. is open to open debate and the laws and regulations are a product of ongoing open debate. He is not a fan of pure capatalism saying it becomes a tyranny in the end.
Soros embraces a mix of pure capatalism and socialism stating that all citizens have the right to education, health care, and security but also need a free market to thrive economically in. In other words the man believes in a regulated free market governed by a flexiable set of laws that are determined by the society.
Mr. Soros has been a member of The Council of Foriegn Relations and an investor in The Carlyle Group in the past. He has left both organizations and seems to have a distaste for the Bush family (Carlyle investors and CFR members). He obviousely is alarmed about what is going on in America today.
Is this guy a tricky globalist or does he really care? His past record in eastern Europe shows a generouse guy that genuinely wants to make the world a better place.
