The US needs a guest worker program, not bigger walls or loose cannon local municipalities. A program that insures that immigrants get minimum wage and are paid salaries commensurate with US citizens, which would take the incentive out of hiring illegals, sort of like legalizing drugs would take the incentive from drug dealers...

BTW, good luck at rounding up the population equivalent of several states and shipping them back to South America, the cost of that will far exceed whatever they get in social services...

Mechanized harvesting is on the move. Right now, Florida is moving to all mechanized harvesting oranges because they can't compete with South American imports. Mechanized harvesting is cutting costs like crazy and it's improving across the board.

But I know that shipping them home would be a logistic nightmare that wouldn't be successful. Besides the cost of it, good luck and trying to find them. There are what 14 million of them here, we guess? 14 million are here and we don't know who they are? They know how to evade.

I'm leaning more toward, cities cracking down on them and their employers. Make them unwelcome. I mean if you wouldn't want some kind of "program" for any other specific unlawful activity, why would a person staying here illegally be any different?
