It's true, I have big problems with the political process here and with the two party system... And it's true that there are other countries that are better democracies than the U.S.

But I don't believe there's a government that works in the public's interest and where there is legislated fairness. The objective of every country in the world is to be the guy on top...and every country has people on the top. Some countries are just better at hiding it than others. Anywhere you go, it's dog eat dog, and even the communist countries had multimillionaires.

In my mind, that's the real joke of socialism...that's just the rich paying off the poor to shut the hell up and leave them alone. The irony is that it's even harder to become rich in that system...that's a more anti-little guy system than capitalism.

The only place 'fairness' exists is in some pothead's wet dream.

but over the years, i see these presidential candidates spewing the exact same bullshit over and over.
i remember very well hillary clinton and bill standing on a podium here in my home town waving a fake healthcare card in the air and promising healthcare for every american, and evry politician after them promising the same shit, and the crowd goes crazy.

when are americans finally gonna wake up and start yelling liar at them instead of applauding.

sammy hagar fans get called sheep here all the time, but the real sheep are american citizens, we are supremely gullible and out of this world forgiving, its like our memory lasts 4 years.

how anyone could argue who is the best man for president is deeply nausiating to me.
the system has beaten us the citizen, it is not for the people it is against us, not purposely but by its needing to protect us and its laws nothing can get done, it cant even feed its own people or put them in housing.
Again, true that we never have any good candidates...and they just play off one douche against the other now so you'll settle for the 'lesser of evils.'

But it's still the vote. Without the vote, you're nothing...you exist at the whim of the state. If you don't vote, you have no voice and no right to complain about anything.

I vote in everything. I think I first voted for president when I was 14...voted for pres in 3 different states last time....I'll vote for dog catcher if I know when the election is. I'm a voting fool.

And here's the real bullshit of it: what's a good voting turnout? 40%? And the margin between winner and loser is what...10% of that 40%?

That means if just a fraction of those lazy-ass 60% showed up, they could literally turn any election any way they want. Vote doesn't count my ass.

And again: if you don't vote, you have no right to complain about jack shit. You gave up your voice.

I think things could change, but yes, to date it seems one's vote doesn't mean Didley - unless the Diebold senses conservative/Republican.

          ***WARNING***

          Conservative Commentary Below:

Many of the arguments that liberals/Democrats present make alot of sense to me. I can usually understand opinions that differ from mine. I understand being against the Iraq War. I understand being pro-choice. I understand feeling bad for people and wanting the government to offer help. These are all positions that people can easily arrive at with legitimate conviction.

But nothing is further from the truth than all of this foolishness of America being such a horrible country. I see posts about the rich and corporations, torture, invaders, people hating the US, and most recently about votes not mattering. It takes the most basic of common sense to see the foolishness of it all.

America is a country founded on freedom. We all know hat all the freedoms are. It was also founded on opportunity. One can simply not question that opportunity exists for every person in his country. For some, that opportunity is harder to find, and harder to succeed at. Many are born into more advantageous sitiuations. However, no matter who you are, you at least have a shot at a good life. I would argue that the country's/goverment's responsibility is not to guarantee success but to guarantee opportunity. Many people come from nothing to acheive huge success, and many have been provided the greatest oportunities and failed to the highest level.

Yes, the rich run the country. Money does things, money makes things happen, money creates. It is corporations and small businesses tat provide jobs and wages, and make healthcare, dental and retirement plans available. The rich are the ones innovating, creating medicine, saving lives, creating an economy, and largely helping support those in need, including being the support behind nearly all charity.

Beacuse of that, and the opportunity that created it, THIS country is the first to offer tremendous support when the rest of the world, enemies included, need it. When there are worldwide natural disasters, The United States of America is first and biggest to respond. We've erased more poverty in the world that any civilization in history.

And for you're vote not mattering. Tell that the the hundreds of thousands of Amercians who have died rpotecting that right. Maybe one vote out of 40,000,000 in a Presidential election won't matter, but this country gives you the opportunity to vote and CREATE votes. If you and enough other people believe in something, you can make it happen. How many times do you have to see individuals and smal groups achieve enormous victories before you can understand this? One guy - one single American - nearly had The Pledge of Allegance changed. One woman began the entire civil rights movement. Look at the power of Michael Moroe, Ralph Nader, Martin Luther King. The list of individuals changing the world is endless. Again, the opportunity exists to be powerful and influential. Yes, more so to some than others.

You can correctly argue that everything is far from perfect, and I would agree. But it's hard to argue that this country isn't the best chance the world has seen.

Hitler was appointed. but study your history. He was elected to an office. then took the office of chancellor and so on.
            But initially he was elected.
