    McCain Camp Drops Mellencamp Songs

    Mellencamp Deleted from McCain's Playlist
    By Sarah Hall

John Mellencamp wants to make it clear—he doesn't want to R.O.C.K in John McCain's U.S.A.

Upon learning that songs of his, including "Our Country" and "Pink House," were being played at campaign events for the Republican senator and prohibitive presidential nominee, the liberal musician had his publicist draft a letter expressing his discomfort with the situation.

"Mr. Mellencamp identifies very strongly with the progressive wing of the Democratic Party and was supportive (with these same songs!) of the candidacy of John Edwards, on whose behalf he made several campaign appearances," read the letter sent to the campaign by spokesman Bob Merlis on Monday.

"Are you sure you want to use his music to promote Senator McCain's efforts?" the letter continued. "Logic says that the facts might prove to be an embarrassment, were they to be circulated widely."

Merlis said the singer couldn't imagine why McCain would want to be associated with him.

"You know, here's a guy running around saying, 'I'm a true conservative,' " Merlis told the Associated Press. "Well, if you're such a true conservative, why are you playing songs that have a very populist pro-labor message written by a guy who would find no argument if you characterized him as left of center?"

A spokesperson for the McCain campaign said Thursday that the songs have since been dropped from the senator's playlist, but declined to elaborate.

Merlis said Mellencamp has not yet endorsed another candidate since Edwards dropped out of the race on Jan. 30.

The rocker is scheduled to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Mar. 10.

McCain could always stick with the classics.

Maybe he could replace it with great conservative rock classics such as..."Wango Tango?"

Naw, he should replace it with Aerosmith's "Same Old Song And Dance", which is exactly what it will be if he is somehow elected President. I can't, for the life of me, imagine why anyone would want 4 more years of the same old shit we've had with this braindead chimp? I don't understand the sudden resurgence of McCain's campaign, and why so many people keep voting for this bastard, why so many people are happy with the status quo, why they want 4 more years of warmongering and want to keep this war going in Iraq which is bankrupting this country and costing so many of not only our soldiers' lives, but the lives of thousands of innocent Iraqis as well. This country cannot take four more years of a like minded administration, we simply can't afford it, literally and figuratively.

          Simple.

Look who he was running against.

A cross-dressing 3 time married crook from NYC, a pandering haircut, and a modern day Gomer Pyle.

The Republican Party really rolled out the dregs this cycle.

Anyone who lets some celebrity be it musician , actor , producer ,
director or whatever influence their decision on who to vote for is a moron.
These people have every right to back whoever they want , but when they use their status to influence their fans to vote the way the celebrity sees fit in my opinion they are out of line .
The should voice their opinion but it would be better if they made
it clear that everyone should vote for who they judge the better candidate not some celebrity's choice.
In the case of Johnny Cougar , he used to parade as the hero of the working man , the average Joe ,but after he married a supermodel
and the cost of a ticket to see him went through the roof ,his
demeanor changed , If you don't want to pay my price , stay home.
I like Elton Johns music but I'm not going to suck somebodies dick because he does .

Do you have to be an english major to post your opinion ?
If you disagree with my opinion say so.
I am stating my opinion not lecturing anyone .
If you would vote for someone just because someone you
idolize says to thats your right .
If Johnny Cougar doesn't want to be associated with some
                candidate that's also his right.
I have much more respect for anyone that encourages freedom of choice to anyone that wants to ram their opinion on whatever down your throat.

BTW, "Johnny Cougar" was endorsing John Edwards. He hasn't moved that endorsement to anyone yet, but it's Obama who is getting the votes in the "Small Towns" where all the little "Pink Houses" are.

Pretty soon, we might hear Mellencamp singing "B.A.R.A.C.K. in the USA"

The entire thread went over your head, cadaverdump.

No one is telling you to vote based on a musician's endorsement.

The point of the thread, was that the McCain camp was using songs without permission or compensation FROM AN ARTIST KNOWN TO BE A LEFT WING ACTIVIST.

Now, if you had half a brain, and you were running the campaign of a Republican who was being accused of being a liberal, WOULDNT YOU MAKE SURE NOT TO USE A SOUNDTRACK OF LIBERAL SONGS BY A LIBERAL MUSICIAN WHO ADVOCATES A LIBERAL AGENDA??

But then if you had half a brain......

Um dummy, the only reason that Cougar said anything was because McCain was using his songs in the first place...
