We don't get to elect a chief. The ministers of each parties get to name their's. It is usually the minister of finances that gets the job (never seen the one of family or cultural affairs).

We often see voters going from one party to another... depending of the team involved (education and health ministers are crucial), the programs and of course... those promises


I could be wrong but I hardly see a US Democrat voting Republican just because they don't like Hillary... I don't think that any Republican could ever be "better" than her due to the basic nature of that party?

I don't know but my Democratic friends will die before checking into the Reps box (last time I heard)!

All democratic processes on a nationwide scale are flawed but the US one seems particularly silly.

good question.

my personal opinion is that the process is designed to produce a president with some level of consensus. for the most part, the winner of the general election has 50+% (or close to it) of the electorate.

fully open general elections would likely yield a lot more plurality winners, and likely with much less overall support.



and, i'm sort've in agreement with Lounge that the primaries should be same day. though, that WON'T stop the money influence. in fact, if you know you HAVE to campaign in every jurisdiction, since even the "last" ones will be held at the same time, you're going to need a boatload of cash...


honestly, i think increased public financing is the way to go. figure out some way to separate legitimate candidates from fringe ones, maybe by providing a 5-1 public dollar campaign match. candidates are welcome to spend as much as they want, but if they go over the required levels for public match, they lose all the public dollars.

And I've been screaming for public financing of elections for some time now.

And in order to renew your FCC License, every 2 years you must open up OUR airwaves to all candidates for FREE
