What's baffling is the how the arguable sham of religion, irregardless of which one, has completely overtaken this country....

You wanna talk about a stimulus package ?? How about the trillions of dollars that people have flooded into the tax-emempt coiffers of "The Church"....

Really pisses me off just talking about it....

Not all of our churches are doing so well. They're closing a lot of Catholic schools here in NYC. Once the parish school goes, the church usually goes belly up. Right now mine is on the chopping block. We are in the red big time. Time will tell if we get axed.

I have family members who are in the church racket and essentially I grew up learning about this racket from an insider perspective.

You would be amazed at what kind of new Cadillacs and giant garages to house said Cadillacs, you can buy with church money. Not to mention the giant gaudy neon signs and fleet of buses that you can use to bring in more shee...I mean followers.

Top of the line musical instruments and expensive gadgets? Take your pick! As long as it's "for the church", it's OK.

And really, you also only have to work twice a week, at most....

This is why I never bothered to get too worked up over televangelists. They even paraded theirs around.

What really concerns me where I am are the storefront churches. They'll throw a Biblical references on a sign and draw people in. There's one they made out of an old movie theater and now the pastors who lead it ride around in limos. And I'm not talking Manhattan. I'm talking a little town in Queens. They stick out like sore thumbs.

I'm not a huge fan of this myself. But the argument can be made that some of the best organizations dealing with poverty are inner-city and rural churches and religious organizations as they have the experience and the boots-on-the-ground so to speak...

On that note....my dad was telling me about how each parish has no idea how much the other parish makes......he was on the parish council for years.....makes you truly wonder how many billions of dollars are going back to Rome each year.

The Diocese has given us money. The problem is that we ran up a $10,000 heating bill for the church and school.

We actually don't send that much over in "dues": just a lil under 3k every 3 months. The rest goes to running the church (utilities), running the school (utilities, salary, materials), running the CCD program, the different charity programs, and feeding the couple of nuns we have.
