And Jesus might not agree with the liberal idea of being interventionist. Those who draw the sword, die by the sword can pretty much be interpreted that way. I don't think charity should be confused with taxing people more to spread wealth around.
That passage is connected to the part where he said (paraphrase) I'm not coming to restore peace, I'm coming to destroy, to divide husband and wife, parent and child etc...
It should be obvious that this isn't a literal reading. The 'sword' is also part of his return, his 'destroying' of people when he returns.
I'm more interested in learning which parts are fiction, and which parts are literal in The Bible.
And how can "The Word" be part fact, part fiction? ???
Enlighten this heathen, please.
Do they call themselves liberals or moderates?
Parables and analogies are not fiction.
I'm no bible scholar and I hardly read it. Debates can be endless and are as confusing as asking the meaning of life. I think these are things should be discussed to gain a newer perspective which means one shouldn't rush towards forming a definite idea of anything. I don't think the details matter, as long as one is guided by love. The rest is sure to be a mystery to any mortal and trying to have a position leads to all the flaws, just like any ideology out there would be flawed.
