U.S. Navy rescues captain held by pirates
Three of the Somali captors were killed and one was in custody

MOMBASA, Kenya - The U.S. Navy has rescued the American sea captain held by Somali pirates.
A senior U.S. intelligence official said hostage Richard Phillips was not hurt in what appeared to be a swift firefight off the Somali coast on Sunday. Phillips was safely transported to a Navy warship nearby.
The official said three pirates were killed and one was injured.
The official was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.
U.S. warships and helicopters had been stalking the lifeboat holding the captain and his captors as a Somali official and others reported earlier that negotiations for his release had broken down....

As liberal as I am with all things considered, I wish we'd set examples and turn the Western part of the Indian Ocean blood red.

The Somali "men with guns" aren't going to get a lot so sympathy from me for any of the above. They've been stealing from, and fucking over, their fellow people for decades now on behalf of Warlords. Now, there's not much left to steal in the corpse-state of Somalia, so they've decided to go after shipping instead of trying to build a sustainable society...

In the old days ships would have to lock the weapons in lockers when they came into port or sometimes the Port Authority would lock the weapons up and then return them when the ship left port. The true modern story here is human life is expendable and sailors getting killed by pirates is just the cost of doing busines because weapons do slow things up and make them more costly.
Piracy will increase due to the economic circumstances and if it gets out of hand, things will really slow down. Not to mention weapons probably will be stashed on ships anyways. People are going to protect themselves and if nobody wants to work on a ship because it's dangerouse then say good bye world economy.No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!Comment
