My team is the US army team? That's insane. These men work as a team to keep the peace. They are their own team. They are failing. They need to be called out exactly as they were. Again, I reiterate, there are friends of yours on this board that have heard similar speeches...what we all saw in the video was not inappropriate.

I don't think it was deeply wrong or offensive really more just a pretty pathetic attempt with no other options. They are taking the coin so I guess can expect to have to listen to this kind of thing.

The army guy is trying the most obvious trick you can get by trying to appeal to their pride.

I'm just saying that it's not going to work and saying 'wooo awesome that told them' as though they are some poorly performing linebackers in a school football team is just missing the point beyond belief.

They are people that were born under a shitty dicatorship whose families were then starved for 10 years by sanctions and then had the fuck bombed out of their country with 100s of thousands of civilian casualties. So now with no jobs and little electricity they are offered a gig in the police so they can get some money to feed their kids. They know that by doing this there is a fairly decent chance they will be blown to fuck by a suicide bomber when they go to collect their pay.

If all that wasn't bad enough some rich guy from the country that is responsible for the majority of this appears and starts saying they don't have dicks because they aren't taking enough opportunities to shoot their countrymen who could at this point may be seen as the resistance to an illegal foreign invader. An invader who is going to fuck off home shortly maybe leading them to have their heads cut off as collaborators in reprisals during the forthcoming civil war.

I'm not sure that any of my friends have had similar experiences in locker rooms, I hope not.

Having went back and read the thread, I do have some serious and not-so-serious thoughts.

The Iraqis do need to get with the program and take control of their own country. They shouldn't expect to (and likely don't want to) have the US Army there providing their stability. One day soon we will be out of there and if they are not prepared to take over, they are going to have more problems for a very long time.

To that end, I agree with the basic premise of the soldier's message: Take control of your country.

Having said that, I don't have a problem with the delivery of the message; it's amusing, entirely American Military and not surprising at all. I'm sure it's not the enlightened, high-minded approach. I'm sure the iraqi police would respond much better to a civil, sit down conversation around a round table where they can all express their concerns and come up with a group consensus on how to deal with it.

Or maybe we should see if the British military will help train them. I hear they have great training sessions, with tea and crumpets.

Or maybe the Canadian military can go train them. Of course, there are a lot of police squads to train so it'll take a long time for all three of them to get around to training everyone.

Wow, being an armchair analyst is fun! Apparently all you need to do it is to have a superficial and barely informed opinion! What joy!

This guy didn't do anything illegal.

This guy merely follows and executes orders given to him by his chain of command.

This guy is well aware of the situation, and has more than likely done 3 tours over there already.

This guy is fed up with the pussy-assed Iraqis not wanting to man-up and make their own country a better place for their children to live.

This guy is tired of chewing Iraqi sand, saying good bye to his family and his fallen comrades for the sake of the Iraqi fucksticks directly to his front.

This guy knows better than you do of how much of a mistake it is to be there-but there he is.

And this guy knows that he'll keep having to come back as long as those guys keep asking him to.

Blaming Bush is counter-productive at this point. Regardless of what lies got them into this mess, the focus should be on getting us the fuck out of there.

                    This guy gets it!

The good news is, we're giving you welfare instead of free healthcare that doesn't work there.

We chose to ignore it until the job [readil] is done.

We can leave when Pelosi and Feinstein figure out where the money is in this thing, and not a day sooner!

That's the true Puppet Government - an empty suit puppeted by a woman handler on her backer's orders.

Iraq Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki demands US withdrawal timetable

                            James Hider in Baghdad

Iraq said for the first time yesterday that it wanted to set a timetable for the withdrawal of US troops from its territory.

President Bush has long resisted a schedule for pulling his 145,000 soldiers out, arguing that it would play into the hands of insurgents. Nouri al-Maliki, the Shia Prime Minister, who boasted last week that he had crushed terrorism in the country, suggested that it was time to start setting time-lines.
