Perhaps it's not the BCE flu at all, but the NAFTA flu..........

    When pigs flu
Swine-flu outbreak could be linked to Smithfield factory farms

The outbreak of a new flu strain—a nasty mash-up of swine, avian, and human viruses—has infected 1,000 people in Mexico and the U.S., killing 68. The World Health Organization warned Saturday that the outbreak could reach global pandemic levels.

Is Smithfield Foods, the world’s largest pork packer and hog producer, linked to the outbreak? Smithfield operates massive hog-raising operations Perote, Mexico, in the state of Vera Cruz, where the outbreak originated. The operations, grouped under a Smithfield subsidiary called Granjas Carroll, raise 950,000 hogs per year, according to the company Web site.

On Friday, the U.S. disease-tracking blog Biosurveillance published a timeline of the outbreak containing this nugget, dated April 6 (major tip of the hat to Paula Hay, who alerted me to the Smithfield link on the Comfood listserv and has written about it on her blog, Peak Oil Entrepreneur):

Residents [of Perote] believed the outbreak had been caused by contamination from pig breeding farms located in the area. They believed that the farms, operated by Granjas Carroll, polluted the atmosphere and local water bodies, which in turn led to the disease outbreak. According to residents, the company denied responsibility for the outbreak and attributed the cases to “flu.” However, a municipal health official stated that preliminary investigations indicated that the disease vector was a type of fly that reproduces in pig waste and that the outbreak was linked to the pig farms. It was unclear whether health officials had identified a suspected pathogen responsible for this outbreak.

From what I can tell, the possible link to Smithfield has not been reported in the U.S. press. Searches of Google News and the websites of the New York Times, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal all came up empty. The link is being made in the Mexican media, however. “Granjas Carroll, causa de epidemia en La Gloria,” declared a headline in the Vera Cruz-based paper La Marcha. No need to translate that, except to point out that La Gloria is the village where the outbreak seems to have started. Judging from the article, Mexican authorities treat hog CAFOs with just as much if not more indulgence than their peers north of the border, to the detriment of surrounding communities and the general public health. Get this:

De acuerdo con uno de los habitantes de la comunidad, Eli Ferrer Cortés, los desechos fecales y orgánicos que produce Granjas Carroll no son tratados adecuadamente, lo que genera contaminación del agua y del viento en la region.

My rough translation: According to one community resident, the organic and fecal waste produced by Granjas Carrol isn’t adequately treated, creating water and air pollution in the region. I witnessed—and smelled—the same thing in Hardin County, Iowa, a couple of years ago, another area marked by intensive industrial hog production. The article goes on to say that area residents have long complained of “fetid odors” in the air and water, and swarms of flies hovering around waste lagoons. Like their counterparts who live in CAFO-heavy U.S. areas, they also complain of respiratory ailments. Now, with 30 percent of the area’s residents now infected with the virulent flu bug, people are demanding that state and federal authorities inspect hog operations there. So far, reports La Marcha, the response has been: nada.

The Mexico City daily La Jornada has also made the link. According to the newspaper, the Mexican health agency IMSS has acknowledged that the orginal carrier for the flu could be the “clouds of flies” that multiply in the Smithfield subsidiary’s manure lagoons.

I’ll be in touch with contacts in Mexico as this story develops —and I’ll be curious to see whether the U.S. media explores the link with Smithfield’s Mexico operation.

Ye, good ol' Micheal Savage, the who's who of the double-speaking, double-chinned FAT ass who vehemently hates "queers" but yet gives himself a last name of a gay porn star has something to say about the Wilber flu? T'was only a matter of time. As of right now, I'm not sure who is more of a fucking lunatic, Savage or Beck but eh, who cares? Let's read an except from Savage's website together, shall we?

"...All the known cases of this disease can be traced directly to someone who had traveled to our “good neighbor” to the south. But the government has ignorantly and stupidly refused to do the very thing that is necessary for survival. Again, its liberalism has proved to be a mental disorder. Piggish thinking is enabling the spread of the swine flu. You have Obama saying that it wouldn’t do any good to close the borders because that would be closing the barn door after the horses got out.

Dontcha you just love his cloaked racism? Putting "good neighbor" in quotations as if "to the south" couldn't quite suffice on its own merit. And his deadpan delivery of Obama's veterinary metaphor vernacular combined with his own medical skills and knowledge! Say no more! Savage has it all down pat claiming that science has it all wrong. Wilber flu isn't caused by a viral pathogen. No, apparently, it's liberals who killed all those good neighbor people to the south and now in Savage's angry old man on the front porch yelling at hallucinations mind believes those neighbors are coming after us. Of course that was their plan all along, right? We give them GM cars to build or less than $4/hr and they give us a deadly lung sputum in return.

Hey, what's the betting right now that Glen Beck just discovered that syringes that could deliver a vaccine for Wilber flu are also manufactured in Mexico? With our good neighbors dead or in the process of becoming a viral organism zombies who's going to save us from all these liberals?

That's part of why it's so confusing, Nick...

          Especially with reports like this...

Inaccurate 'swine' flu label hurts industry, pork producers say

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota (CNN) -- The disease most people in the United States and worldwide know as "swine flu" is actually a combination of human and animal strains and has not been shown to be transmissible through eating pork.

China and Russia banned imports from some U.S. states and Mexico, and stock prices for the nation's leading pork companies, Smithfield Foods Inc. and Tyson Foods Inc., took a hit. In addition, hog futures took a rare dive after initial news of the outbreak broke.

In an already suffering market the negative news is something the industry says could have been prevented.

"This flu is being called something that it isn't, and it's hurting our entire industry," said Dave Warner, communications director for the National Pork Producers Council. "It is not a 'swine' flu, and people need to stop calling it that ... they're ruining people's lives."

Many government health agencies this week began referring to the strain by its official name: 2009 H1N1. But pork producers say the damage is already done.

"The real issue is that anything is bad now because producers for the past 19 months have already lost money," Warner said. "On average they've lost about $20 a pig. So even if they lose $2 more, it's hard on them.

          Hmmm...

Time Magazine Preps Americans For Mandatory Vaccinations

Says public should “trust” government when it institutes draconian measures to deal with pandemic

                          Paul Joseph Watson

                          April 28, 2009

Yeah, I know it's from Prison Planet, but that doesn't automatically disqualify the information...

Time Magazine’s coverage of the swine flu scare has a noticeable subplot - preparing Americans for draconian measures to combat a future pandemic as well as forcing them to accept the idea of mandatory vaccinations.

In an article entitled How to Deal with Swine Flu: Heeding the Mistakes of 1976, the piece discusses how dozens died and hundreds were injured from vaccines as a result of the 1976 swine flu fiasco, when the Ford administration attempted to use the infection of soldiers at Fort Dix as a pretext for a mass vaccination of the entire country.

Despite acknowledging that the 1976 farce was an example of “how not to handle a flu outbreak,” the article still introduces the notion that officials “may soon have to consider whether to institute draconian measures to combat the disease.”

Later we discover exactly what this will entail, namely “when to institute mass vaccination programs,” according to Howard Markel, director of the Center for the History of Medicine at the University of Michigan and a historical consultant to the CDC on flu pandemics.

Markel notes that the less politically combustible situation in America today compared to the post-Watergate era of Ford would make such draconian measures more achievable.

“Even so, he says, citizens still need to trust that the government is working for the greater good,” adds the article. “The American public has to be forgiving and patient and do [their] part too,” according to Markel.

Americans would indeed have to be very trustworthy and ultimately forgiving in taking a vaccine by government decree manufactured by a company that was been caught red-handed contaminating their vaccines with far deadlier viruses than swine flu.

As we reported yesterday, Baxter International confirmed over the weekend that it is working with the World Health Organization on a potential vaccine to curb the deadly swine flu virus that is blamed for scores of deaths in Mexico and has emerged as a threat in the U.S., reports the Chicago Tribune.

As reported by multiple sources last month, including the Times of India, vaccines contaminated with deadly live H5N1 avian flu virus were distributed to 18 countries last December by a lab at an Austrian branch of Baxter.

Since the probability of mixing a live virus biological weapon with vaccine material by accident is virtually impossible, this leaves no other explanation than that the contamination was a deliberate attempt to weaponize the H5N1 virus to its most potent extreme and distribute it via conventional flu vaccines to the population who would then infect others to a devastating degree as the disease went airborne.

These are the people we are supposed to “trust” and “forgive” according to Time Magazine and Markel when the federal government breaks down our door, guns drawn and dripping needle in hand.
