I can see the same sort of initiative coming down the road for (fast) food industry in the next few years. Just became an establishment claims to have "fat free' food doesn't mean it's any more healthy.

The problem with soda and obesity isn't taxes, it's subsidies.

Specifically the subsidies of Monsanto and ADM so they can produce millions of gallons of high fructose corn poison, which is in most of the soda, and far too many other food items on the grocery store shelves.

Buy the new/old Pepsi Throwback/Mountain Dew Throwback even if you're not a Pepsi drinker. Or buy the Kosher Coke, if you live in area with enough of a Jewish population to have some still hanging around a store. This sends a positive message to the companies "Keep making your stuff with REAL sugar and I'll keep buying it".

Or buy the MexiCoke (let's face it, it tastes better in glass bottles), Jones Soda, Hansen's, Thomas Kemper, Red Bull Cola, Dublin Dr. Pepper (only in Texas) or any of the other smaller brands producing sugar sweetened beverages, and as their sales go up, it's a negative message to Coke/Pepsi telling them what sales they will continue to lose as long as they keep using the corn poison.

Happens a lot faster with the high fructose corn poison. Hell, I know that one from personal experience. I only wish I had known it at the time they started using that shit, so I never would have touched it.

And while it's true that real sugar is hardly health food, what makes HFCP so much worse is that it is so refined that your body has nothing to process, so it goes through the stomach into the intestines where it is absorbed directly into the bloodstream. If your pancreas can't supply enough insulin to deal with that, you become diabetic. And even if it can, the shit then goes directly to the fat cells where it's stored long term.

Would you get fat from real sugar? Sure, but you have to try a lot harder.

I think it's like everything else, moderation is the key. As it's already been stated, alcohol and tobacco have been sinned taxed for years. Taxing unhealthy foods and beverages to pay for increasing health issues that the products cause, not really finding much to complain about here.

Obesity in this country is a huge problem (pun intended) and the obesity rate among children is alarming. The sedate lifestyles that the majority of people have and the appallingly unhealthy fast food that millions of people eat daily....is a made to order problem.

Have you ever tried to eat healthy at a fast food restaurant? The fucking salad has more fat in it than a fucking Big Mac. What they advertise as healthy is so loaded with shit to make it taste good that you're not eating healthy, you're substituting one form of poison for another. Go to the grocery store and try to buy a pre-made meal, it's either loaded with fat or has so much sodium that you're at risk of having a heart attack after consuming the meal. This bullshit about fat free or healthy food is a fucking joke too, they load that food with enough alternative toxins that it really defeats the purpose. So it's hardly easy to just buy just healthy foods, unless you want to pay up the ass and go to some fucking hippie or franchised health food store...if you don't you're fucked.

Oh, and what the fuck is it with everything being Super Sized? I've ordered Medium Drinks that it took 2 people to heft out the glass. When did restaurants and fast food joints come to the conclusion that......if we serve a shit load of this stuff per meal, we'll bring in more people. How severing more of something than people really need, is a cost effective practice is beyond me.

Then again, after you have weened yourself off of the plastic food, eating that shit fucks with your system.

In summation (and being higher than JFK during his meetings with Khrushchev) there's a ton of blame to go around but........at the end of the day, obesity is a self induced affliction for the majority of the people.
If you smoke, you may get cancer, if you drink in excess for may get Cirrhosis of the liver, you eat plastic food and don't have an active lifestyle, you're going to get fat. If this burdens the system......fuck you fat fuckers, pay more for the Happy Meal that you feed your kids because you're too fat and lazy to cook a real meal.
