The chinese have the capacity and incentive to master it. Manufacturing (and eventually finance) will be their thing. Do things more
"special" with Hummer no, but make it more palatable to a wider swath of the planet's customers, yes. It's not as if Hummer, or any brand short of Ferrari, is some sacred thing that can't be improved on by a foreign automaker.

WE have the ingenuity to wake up and reinvent, the Chinks can't do that. They're only good at copying our inventions and don't bring much to the world table at all so I'm not the least concerned we lose GM and Chrysler.

What I am concerned about is the loss of the competitive edge, of our production development and manufacturing process trade secrets going offshore which we developed over the course of 50 years.

I'm also concerned that a lot of production contracts for state and fed military even if classified, winds up in the hands of foreigners.

And if the auto industry can go belly up, the next shoe to drop is the aerospace. And if Obama get's his little chocofingers up in that shit, and aerospace tech goes offshore then it's really fucked for us. We need to hold that edge above anything else in manufacturing because what the US aerospace industry took 70 years to figure out, offshore nationals still can't figure out.
