WASHINGTON – White House advisers pledged on Sunday to book administration officials on Fox News despite claims by the president's inner circle that the cable network is a GOP mouthpiece whose programming "is geared toward making money."

On Sunday, Rahm Emanuel, President Barack Obama's chief of staff, said, "It is not a news organization so much as it has a perspective."

    Full article
On the basis of those two comments, the standard could be applied equally to MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS.

Except they are not making nearly as much money.

So is his problem really only that they disagree with the administration? Certainly they have no problem with news orgs with both a "perspective" and the ability to make some money.

This does make them look like crybabies. If they are worried about getting roughed up by a news org in the US, how are they looking to global leaders on the world stage?

I think the Obama Administration is trying to get people's attention on something that doesn't matter because the things that matter are spinning out of control. Job loses, housing foreclosures, devaluation of the US Dollar, people with money and skills leaving the US. Oh the stock market is going up but that's because all the money the central banks have put into circulation are flooding into the financial markets. So now you have a situation where production and consumption are down but the market rallies. So let's start some shit with Fox as a distraction.
No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!

I disagree. With the high percentage of people in this country that allow guys like Limbaugh and Fox "News" to do their thinking for them, plus the propensity Fox has for sticking it's legitimate news anchors with guys like Beck who then pretend to be "educated" about what's "really" going on by him, it adds an air of supposed journalistic integrity to people who are only entertainers not talented enough to be either musicians or stand up comedians.

Thus, the misconception comes to Fox's viewers that they're actually watching a news broadcast and being "educated" about the affairs in this country. It's dishonest and deceitful. When lies, half truths or out and out falsehoods are perpetuated in such a fashion about this administration SIMPLY because Fox is still pissed that McPalin lost the election, than the only viable option is for the White House to take a public stance to dispel this.

Unfortunately, too many people have their heads either in a bible or up their ass (or both) and are more willing to subscribe to the constant fear mongering that Fox spreads like a disease...

          Bob,

I'm curious why you feel this is the case. Considering how many clearly Pro-Obama news outlets there are (both above board and below), why is the White House's ONLY recourse to call them out on it? Why not just ignore them if they disagree with the viewpoint?

Whether you feel they are news or entertainment or something in between, isn't it kind of benath the White House to even entertain the direction they are taking. Shouldn't criticizing of the network be done by people lower on the food chain? Republicans could have made the same case about MSNBC and Olby's and Maddow's relentless pursuit of them (even after their term) and accused them in the same terms you used (which Cheney did after his term). Not saying they took the high road, because there isn't one, just saying leaving it be and letting the allies at the CBS' and CNN's of the world attack Fox would be a better tactic.

Our perception on the world stage (which I feel is weakened with this somewhat petty pissing, compared to the actual issues of the day) I feel is more important than getting into a fight with a news outlet.

This comment would be much more persuasive if you had made it at a time when our perception on the world stage actually plummeted. You know, like during the Bush, Jr. presidency.

What Obama does in the here and now is what I'm concerned about. Bush is another subject that, while I understand why you would feel that way given how you feel about him, has no bearing on Obama's actions at the moment with whatever currency we have.

The subject is the fraudulency of FAUX Noise. The comparison of the Obamadministration to the BCE is relevant, because FAUX cheered 24/7 for Chimpy and now rants 24/7 against Obama.

It's right wing propaganda, not news.

                  Exactly.

..and when it became evident the BCE was being justifiably criticized by some of it's own...publicly....It was 24/7 coverage of the Duke Rape Case, or the missing girl in Aruba.

Apparently to them it is not. If Fox did not exist, King Obama and his cabinet would have the media in their back pocket. His administration will not rest until they have wiped out any dissent toward his left of center methods on running this country. I see a dictator styled attack on talk radio and Fox news in the near future.

I agree. It's really weird the way they just straight out go after opposition. Like campaign mode going after the other people running with attack ads. They don't even disguise it or deny it. To me, the Presidency & his administration should be above this. But then again, the office of the President gets more tarnished with each new guy that takes over.

                              Anita Dunn

TEL AVIV – President Obama's presidential campaign focused on "making" the news media cover certain issues while rarely communicating anything to the press unless it was "controlled," White House Communications Director Anita Dunn disclosed to the Dominican government at a videotaped conference.

"Very rarely did we communicate through the press anything that we didn't absolutely control," said Dunn.

"One of the reasons we did so many of the David Plouffe videos was not just for our supporters, but also because it was a way for us to get our message out without having to actually talk to reporters," said Dunn, referring to Plouffe, who was Obama's chief campaign manager.

"We just put that out there and made them write what Plouffe had said as opposed to Plouffe doing an interview with a reporter. So it was very much we controlled it as opposed to the press controlled it," Dunn said.

Continued Dunn: "Whether it was a David Plouffe video or an Obama speech, a huge part of our press strategy was focused on making the media cover what Obama was actually saying as opposed to why the campaign was saying it, what the tactic was. … Making the press cover what we were saying."

Dunn was speaking at a Jan. 12, 2009, event focusing on Obama's media tactics and hosted by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development, which seeks to promote collaboration between the U.S. and the Dominican Republic. The event was held in Santo Domingo and was attended by the country's president.

Dunn has been facing some criticism since she led a White House campaign last week against Fox News, slamming the top-rated network as an "arm of the Republican Party" and "opinion journalism masquerading as news."

Fox hit back this past Friday, releasing a video of Dunn speaking to high school students last June in which she lists her two "favorite political philosophers," including Communist Chinese leader Mao Tse-tung, whose draconian policies are blamed for the deaths of tens of millions of people.
