Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden is focusing al-Qaida's terrorist resources on the conflict in Iraq, with the goal of influencing the outcome of the November presidential election in the United States, according to close aides of the terrorist leader.
"His concentration may be switched over to Afghanistan again any time," said one aide, who spoke to the Pakistan Observer newspaper last week by satellite telephone.
The sources said bin Laden is safe and out of the reach of U.S. military and intelligence forces and their allies, reports Geostrategy-Direct, the global intelligence news service.
The Pakistani newspaper report stated bin Laden's next focus is likely to be Britain where he may be "masterminding a campaign to malign the reputation of Prime Minister Tony Blair who, the al-Qaida people say, has played a second fiddle to the American President Bush."
The aides said bin Laden is hiding at an undisclosed location. However, he has not been in Pakistan territory, either in its cities or in the tribal regions along the border with Afghanistan, the report said.
One source told the newspaper how bin Laden releases tape-recorded messages through his network of agents. Once a taped message is prepared, bin Laden moves to three hiding places. After confirmation that he has arrived at the third location, the tape is released.
"Tracing Osama through the tapes released by him is next to impossible and America and company should not even dream of getting hold of their most wanted man by this means," the source was quoted as saying.
