Putting the whole debate over which party is more to blame for the current state of the economy to one side, how do we go about fixing it?

The stimulus bills may turn out to be little more than a Band-Aid on a mortal wound, or simply a means of gradually easing into/padding the eventual crash into the inevitable: massive unemployment and all the problems that entails.

If the economy is consumer-based and people aren't pumping money into the economy, how much can Obama (or anyone else sitting in the WH for that matter) do? The President can't force the majority of American businesses to start hiring people and make a 100% employed workforce a priority over "the bottom line" mentality.

Don't the multitudes of companies who for decades have been shifting manufacturing (and thus jobs) overseas for DECADES (on the watch of Democratic AND Republican Administrations) bear as much responsibility as the politicians?

I dunno...the idea that regime change in the WH is gonna really address the problems this nation is facing...it's a non-starter. If the bulk of the citizenry aren't willing to wake up, become engaged in a manner that is sustained beyond the election cycle and really be willing to sacrifice and endure some hardship, you can elect whoever you want to and it ain't gonna matter.
