I traveled a lot growing up and saw a lot of poverty. What I saw was the result of corrupt governments. I've seen hard working poor people and also lazy people who were poor. My mom came from a very poor family and my dad came from a very rich family. My grandparents were as far as you could get on the spectrum. My mom never had a car and they didn't have a bathroom until my dad built them one. My mom's dad was hard working but never created any jobs. My other grandfather had hundreds of people on his payroll and paid everyone equal no matter what your color was when he didn't have to. Blacks and indians usually got paid less.
I know a doctor who goes to Guatemala every summer and volunteers his services for free. I've also seen asshole rich people as well and usually the wealth doesn't las beyond three generations before it's squandered off.
Poor people on average don't create jobs and industry but rich people sometimes exploit them. The only thing I can see that helps is competition. The more providers the better. This is what we needed to do with our health industry instead of putting all the power in the hands of the government. We could have changed the insurance laws and allowed people to buy insurance across state lines. The premiums would go down due to competition and a more free market.
