I mean, talk about a job maker....

Not just the trains themselves, but retrofitting the tracks as well....

It all would depend on who wins the bid for the contract. The U.S. could have a streamlined, efficient money making enterprise or the whole thing could end up looking like certain memorable episode of The Simpsons.

This is the new idea they may be going for. The train never stops which saves a lot of energy and time.

If we had a coast-to-coast highspeed rail I suspect it would become dominated in short order by one of the big shippers like FEDEX or DHL as freight cars would be given preferential track allotment over time to the point where individual bulletrain travel cost would become astronomical.

I don't see that ever happening. Compared to Europe, the US transcontinent is vast, vast vast. I don't even think it would be possible in 100 years or more when all the freeways are falling apart here in California.

Anotehr thing I don't understand is why are the roads so shitty in Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago with a taxable support base - but when you get out into the sticks the fucking roads are near perfect? Cuz the NHTSA won't come round to pave once they're done for another 25 years, but here in Los Angeles for example you can't go out late at night to party without the freeway fags shutting everything down past 11pm!

You got all these cone-dropping morons out there starting at the stroke of 8pm, squeezing 3 lanes into one, and three hours later they are out squirting epoxy in all the cracks and setting fast-cure block repairs whcih they can never seem to get level with the rest of the freeway and thus eventually becomes subjectivly cratered from additional, unnecessary impacts.

NOW it's the holidays: try going into Hollywood to see a band or a show and getting back anytime soon.. get there at 8, eat and leave by 9:15, leave the club or theater by 12:00 and its like a fucked-up battlezone with all the cones all over the place, electronic signboards.. this is shovel-ready projects?

It is taking 6 years now to add 3 miles of extra lane widening both sides of the 405fwy n and s of the 10fwy.. and they still ain't done.

Yeah, like the worthless expansion of Kempsville Rd at the intersection of Princess Anne. What a waste of money. Hell, the signs advertising the fact it was the Reinvestment and Recovery Act probably cost several thousand.

Anyway people, this was a project originally to be paid entirely by the taxpayers of Virginia Beach but the city managed to shove it off on to the Stimulus. Now you all get to pay for our local traffic intersection upgrade as well.

They should have made Pat Robertson pay for it. Didn't you say you lived right down the road from CBN?

They've been talking about doing it for like 10 years, nice to see it's finally in motion...
