When you are $14 trillion in debt it's time to cut off what we don't really need. Bye bye NPR.

It's just the same old elitist liberal paternalism. They are just as bad as the religious right in regards as big white daddy knows best. They are the same because they both want unquestioned power and think they have all the answers.

The radical religious right hide behind family values and religion. The radical left hide behind hate speech, fairness doctrine, and the assumption they are smarter than everyone else. Neither side believes in freedom at all if you listen to them. They all know what's best for you and they must lead because you are too stupid to lead yourself. It's smug elitism. It's what mankind has been fighting over the ages and if you are dumb enough to give either group absolute power, then you get what's coming to you because then they will take everything from you.

under that logic, you'd have to give up the bush tax cuts.

because we've been funding NPR for decades, and its impact on the budget has been negligible, and in fact, we still funded it during actual budget surpluses. but the tax cuts...those were pretty much trillions in debt, no matter how you stacked it up.

Yeah, what could possibly be the point of a radio network that broadcasts in the public interest, as opposed to the right wing agenda of a corporation. How horrible would that be?

Unfortunately, NPR and PBS aren't nearly as good as they used to be, due to right wingers in congress trying to kill funding, the fucked economy being a factor in many people having to skip their usual voluntary contributuions, and the bulk of that funding now coming from "charitable foundations" which are often owned by some very NON charitable people. Not to mention the BCE appointing complete right wing nazis to oversee them in recent years.

They're still far to the left of FAUX or even ABC & CNN. But being "to the left" of right wing extremism doesn't make you "extreme left", unfortunately.

Well not bashing either party, but just as an oberver: Whenever I drive and listen to AM radio (especially in the stix) all I have to listen to is Rush and Friends. FOX news dominates the airwaves. And Right-Wing Moguls control huge media outlets and that is all I can tune to in many places.

So if again....by your own categorization....if NPR is "Liberal and leftie".....then perhaps the point is: The American people get to have a choice?

I like listening to BBC to see what others in the world are talking about. If not for NPR most people couldnt. Science Friday rocks, and I do not care for someone constantly complaining and whining all the time like I hear on AM, it is like a bunch of old ladies bitching all the time.

So if FOX rules and Rush is King...then can we at least have one "alternative" view point to listen to or does it all have to be a march to Zion for the right?

Again, not for either party here (not registered with either), but I thought we were allowed to have a choice in a democracy: Or is that something you see as wrong?

Take away Rupert Murdochs's tax breaks and take away NPR's Gov funding. Sounds equitable correct? And why is that Aussie here anyway? Where is the Birther movement?

And let's say the people on the right get their dream....NBC closes, CNN Closes, NPR Closes, ect Ad Nasuem until all other voices are silent? What is the rest of we the people supposed to do?

Our choices will consist of Justin Bieber, Rush Limbaugh, FOX news, Religious programming and Mexican Mariachi music. Not much of a democracy left there I guess. Not the country my Dad fought for. Sometimes I just want to listen to some TRANCE music and mellow out. Guess that is too much to hope for in the US of the future.

They pretty much suck turning news into a theater of poverty. I used to car pool with a NPR-listener type who drove a Saab and was constantly in college for some type of Masters degree in some such shit. It wasn't that the level of news on NPR was bad or unlike the major networks of crap but that is was horribly depressing. How many stories do I need to hear at 7:00am about some mud hut family in Africa all dying of cancer due to Shell Oil fucking up their environment? Okay, it actually a worthwhile news story when NPR is the only source of news reporting on such corporate evil only to turn around and give credence to the Rockefeller Foundation?

NPR sucks from the corporate cock like FOX or MSNBC does. NPR selects its stories carefully and even 'All Things Considered' should be renamed 'Eh, A Few Things Here & There, Most Of Them Dull And Uneventful.' If they went off the air tomorrow I would not miss them and you know all these so-called "real journalists" would filter themselves into the Fox franchise it the job opportunity presented itself.

So NPR is flawed like all the rest our our free media. Who cares? Let the dumbasses on the right have a field day with this for it keeps them from reporting any real news themselves.

Oh I would love to take some meat out of General Electric and Exxon's big fat ass. Government does need to break up monopolies and stop unfair business practices, including tax evasion. I just don't like the class warfare I hear on the left. They say let's go after the rich and take estates. It's all wonderful sounding Robin Hood type talk but not all corporations are the bad guys, some working family farms and ranches are estates, and some rich people actually do a lot of good for their communities.

What we need to do is make the campaign contribution system fair. Make it illegal for businesses to donate to campaigns and only registered voters can donate to a campaign and have a limit for each person. That would eliminate the rich from buying the politicians and getting special treatment.

NPR always had an elitist snobby feel to it. They had this monotone, expensive wine drinking, angry lesbian on her period type of feel. Saturday Night Live did a funny spoof on them as did Kerri Kasum.

So taxing and regulating family farms and ranches out of business is going to win the class war then. Hmmmm maybe the solution is collective farms. Yeah. That worked out so well in China and Russia.

By the way. Warren Buffett is a Democrat. If he is so concerned, nothing is stopping him from giving the IRS more of his money. They will gladly take it I'm sure.

No, but taxing and regulating MonSatan, ADM, and Cargill out of business would save the family farms. Not to mention detoxify the US food supply.
