I can remember when the state of California had one of the largest economies in the world and the state lost money subsidizing education for it's residents. What it meant is you could get a college degree and come out debt free and in the long run the state actually got more than they put in. Sort of like the GI bill.

Now education is being used to make you a long-term debt slave. The politicians have sided with the banks to give you no quarter and to be honest, fuck the loans. Subsidize the education so it's affordable and let the students work their way through it like we used to do.
