Again who is responsible for running your local precincts polling is your county. It's a local government process and not a federal process. Basically the local citizen base is in charge of how they run their local polling system. We the People. If you don't like how things are done then bring it up to your local county election board.

Why is that?

Who is unlikely to have a drivers license?

1) People who live in big cities with decent mass transit systems and do not choose to own a car, since it wouldn't be practical to drive one.

2) People who cannot afford to own a car.

3) Senior citizens who no longer drive - whether by choice or for medical reasons.

Now certainly in some states, you can get a state issued ID card even if you don't drive. Except it usually costs about the same as the drivers license does, and you have to stand in the same ridiculous lines at the DMV to get one. And if you're well over the age where you need it to buy a beer, what practical use is it to anyone?

Now tell me what party most (if not all) of the people I have described above would be likely to vote for, and then you will know why the Repukes are so desperate to pass this shit. Along with the fraudulent Diebold machines, and the Shittizens United inspired outright LIES they can now get away with in massive TV advertising.

Republicans cannot win a fair fight, and they know it. So they have to eliminate every vote they can, by any fraudulent means necessary.

Okay, so they don't drive. But they are going to have some sort of identification card. How do they write checks? Withdrawal from the bank? Use a credit or debit card? Go to a bar? Buy alcohol or cigarettes? Rent a movie? Rent a hotel/motel room? Apply for credit? Apply for a job? Apply for anything? The not driving is a bullshit weak ass excuse. People still have ID cards and the states offer one that is nearly identical to the state drivers license for about $10.

Once a person relinquishes their drivers license, they can convert to a state issued identification card that is nearly identical extremely easily since the DMV already has all the information on file and confirmed. they usually don't even need to have a new photo taken.


YES, this law if passed will reduce significantly Democrat votes. But not for any of the 3 reasons you cite. Not even close. It will keep illegal immigrants from voting and help in preventing double, triple, or worse voting from unscrupulous people.

One person = one vote.

I do believe that state issued identification cards should be free of charge to any legal resident. Take in your birth certificate or what not like you would for a drivers license and prove your identity and get a real ID card.

I do live in a city with a poorer downtown core....not everyone can afford cars...but yet the polling numbers from those ridings were just as high as the other ridings.

Truthfully, after the sickening results of tonight's election here, I think voter ID is only half the battle.

Voter IQ is just as much of a problem. Idiots who vote for stupid bullshit that will KILL their state economically, either based on a deliberately misleading ballot title, or even more misleading advertising, which now - thanks to Shittizens United - will be in your face every 5 minutes.

Bottom line, if you don't know what you're voting for, you shouldn't be allowed to vote for it. I say voters need to pass a test before they get a ballot to prove they understand the issues and candidates being voted on.
