Police Brutality now located at your local WalMart "Black Friday" sale

Police body slam leaves grandpa bloody, unconscious at Wal-Mart
    By David Edwards
    Friday, November 25, 2011

Witnesses say police officers tackled a grandfather at an Arizona Wal-Mart Friday, leaving him bloody and unconscious.

The video game section of the Buckeye store got a little rowdy when people started trying to tear open boxes of games, and one woman got punched.

After one man’s grandson got trampled, he put the video game he was holding in his waistband in order to free up his hands and lift the boy out of the crowd, according to KSAZ.

That’s when cops moved in, slamming the grandfather’s head on the hard Wal-Mart floor. The aftermath was caught on cell phone video.

“Are you sure that was necessary for shoplifting?” one customer asked as the cops cuffed the unconscious man, his head lying in a pool of blood.

“You done knocked the motherfucker out,” another shopper said. “That’s your goddamn job.”

As an officer rolled the man over, it became obvious that he was out cold. Another officer quickly found that more than paper towels were needed to clean up the mess.

“They grabbed the guy, body planted him into the ground — face shatters on concrete,” shopper Skyler Stone told KSAZ. “That’s a hard concrete floor inside Walmart.”

“All of a sudden, you see this little boy run up and wailing and yelling, ‘Grandpa, Grandpa,’ and crying his eyes out,” Stone added.

Buckeye police claimed that their actions were justified, and that the cell phone video only showed the aftermath. They also said in-store security cameras failed to capture skirmish.

The suspect has been identified as 54-year-old Jerald Newman. He was charged after being treated at a local hospital.

While the incident is under investigation, the officer in question is still on the job.

I see a major lawsuit coming here....

First of all, there's no such thing as shoplifting, until you have physically left a store in possession of something that was not paid for. Secondly, the man's intention was obviously not to steal, but to take care of his grandson. Whether or not he should have taken the kid to such a ridiculous scene in the first place, is of course an entirely different question.

Furthermore since when is brutal police assault the appropriate response, even if the legal definition of shoplifting HAD been met here?

Hope the Buckeye WalFart made a lot of money today......because they aren't going to be keeping it for long.

Reminds me of going to the Soviet Union in 1978 with my uncle who was a Russian history professor and going to the Gumm department store in Moscow. They had a shoe sale which was nothing more than some cheap canvas sneaker shoes tied together with the laces in a big pile. They opened the gate and a mad rush ensued, fights broke out, people trying to find the right size and when the time was up, in came the security who beat the people off with sticks. Shopping Soviet style.

I hate Wal-Mart's business practices and haven't been in one of their stores for years.

I was visiting a friend in the hospital and his nurse used to be a police officer. He left law enforcement and went into nursing because the pay was so low being a police officer. All my relatives who used to be police officers have gone into other professions because it's more dangerous now, more political corruption, and the grade of people you work with has degraded.

You get what you pay for. I think a lot of these officers are incompetent, poorly trained, and maybe nuts being attracted to a job for the machismo factor. They no longer use negotiation or people skills and just grab the tazer or pepper spray.

The thing that bugs the hell out of me is when you get a police corruption case and they use our money to settle it out of court.

            Incredible.

Personally, I think a bunch of jackasses rushing into a WalMart at midnight to be the first to buy a fucking video game deserve a good, old fashioned, Chicago '68-style hippie ass-whomping.

Not to be mean but when I first saw the story on the news my first thought was Darwin at work. There is nothing in Wal-Mart even worth buying let alone staying up all night for.

Ford, you don't get it. Most, if not all, security appointed goons whether they be mall cops, ER security, whatever barely have a 10th grade education. Most are GED equivalent hired thugs who don't question those who hired them. Cops are not much better - most barely possess a GED equivalent and are drop outs themselves, who after two to four years at a Subway, or BestBuy attended a two year degree community college in criminal justice because the academic requirements are so low. Most law enforcement agencies require a minimum of a bachelor's degree but a D (2.0) average is all it takes. Most are raging alcoholics, drug users, wife/family beaters and have various psychiatric personality disorders. From what I've seen of them do to the mentally ill and the homeless in this city, I've have 0 respect for law enforcement anymore.

As for Crap-Mart I personally haven't shopped there since 2005 and never will again. Soviets-style warehouse stores loaded to the ceiling with all sorts of imported Chinese made shit isn't my idea of an economy. So this doesn't surprise me when you have low-intelligence working for low-wage at a low-quality consumer meat market. Crap-Mart thrives on the powder kegs they build each Black Friday as they watch the poor, uneducated and disenfranchised rush into their labyrinth of aisles that have little worth in the first place. From that douche lady with the pepper spray to this Crap-Mart doesn't care who gets hurt - especially their own employees. A lawsuit may be pending but most likely it will be settled out of court, Crap-Mart will hire different goons for next year and all will be forgotten about.

Being a real police officer is a skilled job. It's a people skills job. It used to be a pretty good living and people loved being police officers. Now they just don't want to pay them anything but they also hire more of them. Kristy is right. The law profession has gone downhill. It's filling full of flunkies.

It's always Wal-Mart that participates in the Homeland Security snitch on your neighbor George Orwell programs. That again is right out of the Soviet Union. I guess they figure they will find their useful idiots at Wal-Mart because they are dumb enough to shop there.

People get so distracted by gizmos, gadgets and shiny objects...no fucking wonder our country is in so much trouble.

Not to be mean either, but when reading a recent story about a pedestrian who while crossing the street got hit and killed by a car, and said person was too busy texting at the time to...you know...LOOK AROUND AND SEE WHAT WAS REALLY IMPORTANT...how much sympathy am I supposed to have for these people?

Like, was reading that text worth his life?

They buy the hype. It's no different than the casino business. My dad did a lot of contracting work in Reno and Vegas and he played poker and blackjack. His business partner was excellent at it and played a lot of poker tournaments and made money doing it. These guys would shake their heads at the people who would come into into the casino and brag they won so much money when in reality the put more into the house than they took out. The interesting people are the people who brag about how much they lost.

Stores like Wal-Mart kind of operate on a similar hype over Black Friday. They will have a few expensive items and sell them at a very low price. That baits the suckers and most the people that went will never get what they came for. But Walt-Mart got them in the store and instead of getting angry and leaving they stay and shop. I will bet you anything most people who go walk out with entirely different stuff than what they came to buy. They just want to get you in the store just like the casino wants to get you to walk past the gaming floor. They know if they do that, you will drop some money down.
