You can see the difference in communities in the little things. I will never forget staying at a rest stop in California and they had this big steel bar with a bunch of rolls of toilet paper on it. The next morning someone had stolen the big bar and all the toilet paper. Then I was going across North Dakota and they had a rest stop. It was spotlessly clean and they had a bunch of toilet paper sitting neatly on a shelf. Nobody was stealing it.
FEMA even did some research on what increases a person's survivability in a disaster and the number one thing is your community. Are your neighbors going to turn on you and loot and rape and pillage or are they going to help each other?
It's not about what you get from the government, it's all about the quality of your community and the individuals that are in it. Everyone in the government are out for themselves and the farther away the government is from where you live the less they care about you. It's why I have never been a fan of big federal programs taking over what should be managed locally.Last edited by Nitro Express; 03-16-2012, 12:31 AM.No! The whole "voting against their own best interests" line of thinking kills me. How are they voting against their own self interests? Maybe they are interested in something besides a handout. Do government programs solve poverty? No. If so, we wouldn't have any poor people (and compared to the rest of the world we really don't), especially in places run by liberals, such as Detriot, New York, Chicago or closer to home, New Orleans, instead these programs seem to create more dependency. Many of us southerners are more interested in a sense of independence and of liberty, even if it makes life a little more challenging in the process. I know a lot of people who would much rather be free to hunt, fish and ride around in an old pickup truck but want to EARN what little they have. If you gave them a choice between a small house in the woods with a fishing boat, a few guns and a tree stand and a new, clean duplex in a housing project, coupled with a nice government check they would take the woods every day. THAT is their interest and they want the government to stay the fuck out of it.
You can't judge people by how they appear. That fella in the red hat reminded me a lot of my father (until he started talking, my dad was a much smarter man) they definitely had the same fashion sense and yet my father was a successful small business man in a rural area. Ask any small businessperson you know and they will tell you that it isn't their best interest to elect big governmnt progressives from either party.“If bullshit was currency, Joe Biden would be a billionaire.” - George W. Oh nice, racism. Except most people on welfare and food stamps are white--yet--everyone shown is some undereducated black person from the underclass...thanks for the lesson on why all black people are inherently evil and lazy...Comment

You first bud, your jackoff pandering here is just embarrassing. But maybe we can get back to actually discussing issues here instead of you sucking some elderly hypocrites dick?Comment

You're right, there is something embarassing going on.
But it ain't what you think it is.Comment

Yeah, the fact that you give reach-arounds to unapologetic racist propagandists pretty much tells us where you're coming from...Comment

I love how liberals always run for the prejudice and racist labeling. The funny thing is they are as prejudice as anyone. They hate anyone who doesn't see the world exactly as they do. When that shooting happened in Tucson they were right out of the gate claiming the guy was a crazy teabagger right winger without knowing any of the facts.
It's really a mob rule mentality I see over and over with them. Also, they are obsessed with every little detail the Republican candidates say and do. I find that interesting because they aren't going to vote for any of them. It seems to be they are having a hard time accepting their party is corrupt, their elected dream president is corrupt. I will be honest here. The Republicans had the presidency and congress and blew it big time. They abused their power. Then the Democrats had their shot and blew it.
It's clear these bought off politicians could care less about us and they are still allowing the banking abuses to continue and bailing out the failed speculators with our future tax money. Both parties are doing this. So we can point the fingers at each other and get all angry blaming the other guy but nothing productive comes from it. People just need a punching bag to feel good I guess. No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!Comment
