Rick Santorum wants to ban hard-core pornography

Rick Santorum wants to put an end to the distribution of pornography in the United States.

"America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography," Santorum's official website reads. "Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships. It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking."

The former Pennsylvania senator states that, "as a parent, I am concerned about the widespread distribution of illegal obscene pornography and its profound effects on our culture."
Santorum criticized the Obama administration for turning "a blind eye ... to the scourge of pornography" and for refusing to enforce obscenity laws.

"If elected President, I will appoint an Attorney General who will do so," Santorum writes. "While the Obama Department of Justice seems to favor pornographers over children and families, that will change under a Santorum Administration."

Santorum is not the first presidential candidate to take up the obscenity issue. In July, Michele Bachmann signed a pledge vowing her support of a constitutional amendment that, among other things, called for a ban on all pornography. (It also effectively called for a ban on same-sex marriage.)
The Atlantic wonders if Santorum's wide-scale crackdown on porn could actually work.

The Daily Caller found someone who thinks it could. "If the government wanted to aggressively move against Internet pornography, it could do so," UCLA law professor Eugene Volokh told the site.
Wonkette's Rebecca Schoenkopf pointed out it's just another example of Santorum positioning himself as the extremely conservative choice for president.

"It seems that Rick Santorum has found time in his busy schedule of condemning 'radical' women for working outside the home and using birth control, and nagging English-speaking Puerto Ricans to speak English, and now is turning his hot, penetrating gaze to manfolk-bizness," she wrote.

Another rant against Santorum.

Now again, I do happen to believe in Christ, and have accepted him as my personal savior. I've been "Saved", but I'm pretty liberal in regards to my beliefs. I also believe on not pushing my beliefs on others, or trying to overtly save them. If the time comes and they need help, and would like to hear some of my testimony, I'd be more than happy to share it with them, but at the same time try to ensure that I am by no means perfect.

To push his beliefs of morality and of his faith on this country is just so grossly unchristlike and offensive, I don't even know where to begin. It's not my place to judge what others do in their lives, It's not my place to force people into my brand of Christianity, or into a belief in God. It's not my place to dictate morality. It's on them. I say, as long as it doesn't harm another human being in the process, or leads to them harming themselves in the long run, let them live their life.

Also, as someone who is of the faith, it disgusts me that Santorum is using his faith, not as a means of charity, or of doing good works in Christs name, but rather to judge others and spread his brand of bigotry around the country, and to collect votes amongst the moral majority. You imagine how much good this asshole could do, if he spent this entire time telling us how we as a nation should be helping those in a time of need out right now?

In regards to my political view on this. This, goes against everything I believe in as an American, and everything I believe the founders wrote into the constitution. If, Porn was banned successfully, in my opinion, you'd see this nation fall under a fascist leadership. This actually angers me very much. To have a major candidate of any political party take these sort of stances in 2012, boggles the mind.

And to see someone like Glenn Beck, who declares himself a "Historian", will go around and bash someone like Teddy Roosevelt, who historically did some amazing things for this country, will turn around and endorse this piece of shit, and calling him a "person of conviction", and close to who George Washington was.

TL;DR. Rick Santorum offends me on multiple levels.

That's an awesome and very respectful question. I'm actually not even sure where to begin with it.

Can, I begin to say, that honestly, I am nowhere as studied on this subject, so my answer maybe kind of weak admittingly.

But, how it was always read to me. Was, man's sin was so bad, the God decided that the only way to possibly save them, was to send his only son (a representation of him) to die upon the cross for all of mankind, and it's kind of viewed as the biggest sacrifice in the judeo-christian belief. (There's even a verse in the bible directly related to that).

The church that I was raised under, kind of pushed the idea of God loving the world so much, that he was willing to do it. Again, why I kind of don't get where people like Westboro spew the sorts of things they do.
