There's still some straw in that man. Though it's probably true the black voter turnout was significantly larger due to the historic aspect of his candidacy, if Obama hadn't had policies they agreed with it probably wouldn't have helped him much. Like for example if, say - Allen West ran for POTUS, you really think any sane, self-respecting black person would vote for that idiot just because he's black?

Oh, I'm definitely not saying that every black person who voted for Obama did so purely because Obama is black. In fact, I think the number of black voters who did this is likely to be very small, especially considering that the alternative was McCain/Palin.

Race was certainly, for most people, not the only reason they voted for Obama...but his race was a big deal. It was representative of diversity and shows how far we've come as a nation. I even feel some pride that that barrier has been broken.

People voted for Obama because they wanted change and were tired of the same old typical assholes. Obama was different or so he sold us on that he was. Sure, being black was part of it but not the whole reason why people voted for him. Basically the Republicans had control and the behaved very badly. People were fed up with the loss of freedom, suspect war activity, war spending, and our resources going to connected rich fucks in corporations and banks. So they gave Obama a shot and unfortunately found out he was on the Bush/Rockefeller payroll as well.

Perhaps not the ones you knew, but to say anything other than those rallies draw a psychotic fringe of fascist buffoons would simply be completely disingenuous. And this is all being stoked into a divisive partisan contest of which Republican candidate refuses to work with his colleagues across the isle the most. It's clearly resonating from the right. So please, stop with the "all things being equal" nonsense...

Funny, that's what they say about the ows people. And the Ron Paul people for that matter. And the democratic party.

Guess there is a lunatic fringe no matter where you go. I don't believe extremists define either movement.

Maybe they are right. Maybe you guys hate capitalism and freedom and America and the military and white people.

That seems about just as believable as what this thread has to say about what they "hate".

Forgive the tendency toward moderation -- clearly its easier and better to engage in demagoguery.

Unlike pretty much everyone in this thread, I can actually answer the question: my republican and tea party friends hold those opinions about anyone in the ows movement, the democratic party, and all Ron Paul supporters.
