      They can't compete with Amazon...
They could compete very well if they knew what the fuck they were doing and stopped being a Circuit City/Sun/Rosas retread. In any case, these big box stereo/appliance/music/home entertainment stores are cursed with having to be the jackoff-of-all-trades, master-of-none mentality rather than focusing on being a brick-and-mortar niche. If I want stereo stuff, I'll go to a mom and pop store featuring high end stuff and there are plenty of places I can get ripped off buying a TV. I'm pretty sure a 50-something Frenchman really isn't going to find the answers to survival for them...

So I finally picked up a DVD burner and held it up in the air and yelled "I have money and I want to buy something right now!!" Finally some dipshit came over to help me and I asked if she knew anything about the DVD burners and she said yes. So I said "what's the difference between this one and that one" and - I swear to God - she said "that one's $49.00 and that one's $59.00". I shit you not.
Not to mention scandals involving their "Geek Squad" personnel who actually turn out to be Creeper Squad shitheads with marginal skills and hack into peoples' stuff when their supposed to be fixing it. And I was once working on a friends computer that her ex-boyfriend owned, and their fucking intrusive, nearly impossible to remove, remote app kept popping up demanding money to check over everything--making it little more than malware...

I was in Washington State recently at an information Centre for tourists...same experience there where the two girls had absolutely no knowledge of the area and nothing to say other than point at their pamphlets

That's what happened to Circuit City in the states. At one time, they had very knowledgeable stereo people who earned a decent commission and salary. They went national, cut everything down to Wal-Mart minimums, and went tits-up within a decade...
