Dave didn't pay his dues, his dad did.

Sure, Dave supports himself. But an average person works harder and doesn't have nearly as much money. I work 5 days a week, whole day and I can hardly support myself. And my work isn't as much fun as his.

So how many hours per day efficiant work for the money do you think he does? Per average? How many days a week? And how often does he get a vacation?
I don't mind him having a great life, but you can't really say he "works his ass off".
Look what kind of shape he is in. He's not lazy. He just has the luxury to have more choices. Dave is a Bohemian. Much like the rich kids you see in New York City living on their trust funds. They usually live in a loft or apartment in a trendy neighborhood and do art type shit. They don't have to worry about paying the rent or keeping a job. But sometimes that family money can come with some strings that invades your freedom.

I can dig what you're saying. But the dude did take a big chance by choosing to make show biz his life. And he did work hard to get where he is and he did pay his dues. Sure, the payoff is pretty fucking awesome. But what were the odds? And as far as how many hours per did he work per day back in the day when VH were on top of the world - how many hours do you really think he worked? Two a night, on show nights?

I didn't say he was lazy. But his great shape is a result of a hobby. Hobbys don't categorize under hard work, they are recreation.

It's easy to take a chance when you have economic stability secured.

Some people make their hobby their work. I would say Dave did that. I bet when Dave works it's long days and nights. I bet it's intense. But he can take big breaks from work. Like for years. LOL! I bet on the road and prepping for the tour we might be amazed at how much work it really is.

Ha!! That's a joke!! Ok, seriously. Are you saying that IF Dave had completely failed at music, that his Dad would have just footed the bill for the rest of his life?

Nope, that's not what I said. Making it and paying your dues are two different things.

The Van Halens didn't have that.. Ed drove an old Volvo with lousy brakes and rope to tie the doors shut. Their parents had no money.

What had that got to do with anything???? You said he took a chance, well it's easier when you know you won't starve even if you fail.

I know that, but we are talking about Dave now.

If Dr. Roth loaned Dave money, he made Dave sign a contract to pay it back. Dave's dad just didn't throw money at Dave. I think there were some rules in the Roth home.

So you're saying that if he failed he could have went crawling back to mommy and daddy to feed and clothe him and that's why he chose to do the music thing? Because regardless of the outcome he was assured of a comfortable place to live?
