    Time for a cross wind....

      Senior Bush and the ATF

I had never read Senior Bush's resignation letter to the NRA.

If you have not, here is a link. Senior Bush's Letter of resignation to the NRA

I do remember those times. What happened at Waco and Ruby Ridge against Americans was horrific and the various agencies involved were way out of line ( to put it mildly).

What appalls me is the amount of weapons some sorts have now is equivalent to the amount that David had, yet nothing is being done about them.
I do not recall Ruby Ridge so much, but I do think it too had to do with weapon seizement

Ruby Ridge and Waco still make me feel pain in my heart. It was not good. And the leaders of our government agencies were not good at that time.

I still see the NRA as an leaching opportunist that latches on to anything to embolden their predatory Corporatocracy. and consumerism.

However, the militarization of the agencies entrusted to serve and protect the citizens of the United States of America a very short time back and today is of grave concern, both by citizens and peace officers alike. Moreover, it is less and less governmental agencies that are inappropriately armed, but are privatized corporate conglomerate.

And that is a grave concern, corporate citizens being inappropriately armed and an authorized policing force.

Frankly, if you are not currently in the military or a veteran, then you shouldn't be allowed to own or possess a military-style assault weapon. If you really want one that bad and don't want to go through the tought military training, then join a state defense force. They will take anybody.

Regarding Gun Control: What is an “Assault Rifle?”

                          Earl Griffin

                          Infowars.com

I am more familiar with firearms than the average person. I sold them for a living for several years. I worked as a Peace Officer. I have trained on many firing ranges under the tutelage of men and woman whose instruction was of great value. I grew up hunting and shooting relationally with my late father and with my granddad. I have had an opportunity to become intimately familiar with the function and workings of a wide variety of firearms.

The AR15 is made of modern materials and because of that its detractors like to say it is something that it is not.

There is a falsehood being perpetrated upon the public. You see an “Assault Rifle,” has what is known as a selector switch. This switch allows the shooter to change the weapons function from semi automatic (like a hunting gun) to rapid fire or in some cases auto fire. Rapid fire allows the weapon to fire a burst of three rounds. Auto fire allows it to continue to fire so long as the trigger is depressed.

This is important: An AR15 is NOT an “Assault Rifle.”

It’s Military counterpart, the M16 IS an “Assault Rifle.”

The AR15 is made of modern materials and because of that its detractors like to say it is something that it is not. The AR15 is NOT an “Assault Rifle.”

The term “Assault Rifle,” is a value loaded term much like “Terrorism,” Those who wish to manipulate public sentiment like to use these kinds of terms to sway the opinions of those who don’t really know much about the topic but who love their families and want things to get “better.”

Better often means a further roll back of our Constitutional freedoms. Rolling back freedom is never better.
Here is something to think about: The AR15 is just another semi automatic firearm, much like a 12 gauge shotgun used for bird hunting or a semi automatic hunting rifle used for deer. It is not at all unlike a boy’s .22 caliber rifle used for squirrel or rabbit hunting.

The big difference is that it is made of modern materials instead of wood. If you allow the proponents of gun control to describe every semi automatic rifle (and shotguns – it is the same action) then the next step in this nefarious exercise will be to ban ALL semi automatic rifles and shotguns – that means your hunting weapons. It also means your family heirlooms passed down from granddad or dad.

In conclusion let me repeat: The AR15 is just another semi automatic rifle with a fancy stock made of modern materials. It is not a “Machine Gun,” or an “Assault Rifle.” No amount of describing it this way will change this.

People who use those terms either don’t know what an “Assault Rifle” really is or they are perpetrating a mean spirited falsehood designed ultimately to rob you of your 2nd Amendment rights.
Do your own homework. Do your own thinking. Don’t get carried away by emotion as doing so makes it easier for others to exert control over you.

Protect every word of the Constitution. Stand firm against those who would see your rights curtailed. They will not be satisfied until there is no Second Amendment.

There's a mental diagnosis that I've seen once in all my many years of working with kids, and it was clear...all the classic symptoms, and the kid was ten years old.

                            He went to two doctors...

The first said, "He doesn't have schizophrenia...kids can't have it at this age..."

The parent (and the kid was a twin) got a second opinion, and the second doctor said,

                            "classic case..."

The parent wanted a definitive answer, so went to a third doctor, who said,

"He's on that 'spectrum,' but I can't be sure. We'll have to document it over time."

I actually liked the third answer the best, because you can't meet a kid in one day, especially closing in on puberty, and have a fucking clue what the fuck they are...but for some reason, the answer screamed of "come back for more money..."
It is difficult. I agree with you the last answer is most correct.

Another thing the doctor has to wade through is the information being provided by the parents and potentially those at a school.

The school may be pressured from other parents and have an agenda to "help" but also take the path of least resistance (not always the case of course, but it happens). Now we have all of the sensationalization and misinformation taking on a life of it's own, making things even tougher for the schools to deal with.

The parents may want the diagnosis to be a certain way and provide examples that make it difficult to diagnose, leaving out important details.

All of this in one visit? Impossible.

All the more important to have universal healthcare which is mysteriously absent from most of these discussions regarding this tragedy. If there isn't proper medical care for these families, how can they be properly diagnosed and treated? Chances are they are the most vulnerable already.

So many challenges ahead and so much posturing and drawing of lines in the sand on party lines. It's getting tired.

Under the assault Weapons Ban from 1994-2004, an AR-15 like the one used at Sandy Hook wasn't considered an assault weapon. Much the same will be true this time with new gun control legislation...IF it manages to pass the House.
