The bill was laden with pork, including "aid" to the Gulf Coast States as an incentive for passing the bill (in other words, a bribe). They don't need it. Sorry, but Elvis can buy his double-wide with other funds.
Only a third of the funds in this bill were going to be used in the first two years! Uh, don't these people who have been wiped out need the cash now? What in the hell were they waiting to use the other two-thirds for after two years? Garden projects?
A revised bill will be presented and voted on by the House on Friday, and another in about two weeks. The one on Friday contains the most critical funding for the National Flood Insurance Program, which will be used to help those whose homes were damaged/destroyed by the tidal surge. $150 million for Alaskan fisheries
$2 million to the Smithsonian for roof repair
$8 million to Homeland Security and the Justice Department to buy cars.
$58.8 million for forest restoration on private land.
$197 million to protect coastal ecosystems and habitat
$10.78 billion for public transportation, allocated to future construction and improvements, not disaster relief.
$17 billion for wasteful Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), a program that has become notorious for its use as a backdoor earmark program.
