Isn't there a parallel from the other side, however. Would a moderate Republican adopt a 'they don't speak for me' stance regarding the Tea Party? Democrats might not accept the validity of said Republican's objects; but said Republican might equally tarnish all Democrats with a more 'radical brush' (hippy, permissive, eco-warrior, pro-abortion tree huggers). Don't both sides try to stereotype the other be through the use of exaggeration?

I think you're making an interesting point; I'm just not convinced that the behaviour in question is more typical of the left that the right.......

I don't see the average republican calling all democrats dempukes or demtards every time some democrat takes an extreme position. I don't see the average republican calling all democrats morons or inbred hicks when some democrat says something stupid either.
