healthy skepticism is fine, but it still requires some critical thinking.
there is no real reason for the U.S. to lie about chemical weapons. U.S. public opinion is solidly against actual involvement in syria. so we've been staying out of it, mostly. obama drew his line in the sand against chemical weapons, hoping that it would discourage assad from using them. if assad doesn't use them, then we can stay out of it. if he doesn't, we either have to get involved or our foreign policy pressure is exposed as inept. but we wind up doing pretty close to the bear minimum. small arms.
we don't gain much by getting involved. so why would the government be deceptive?
