I’ve Had It With the Radical “Religious” Right

I’ve reached a point with these religious fanatics that I can’t tolerate their ignorance any longer. I’m sure you know the people I’m talking about — those who claim to be “followers of Christ” yet do nothing of the sort.
The people who live awful lives and are terrible people — yet claim to be “good Christians” simply because they go to some church that tells them what they want to hear.
But when it comes down to these people and their “Christian values” the only thing “religious” that they really believe in is:
■Going to church
■Opposing homosexuality
■Thinking abortions are wrong
And that’s it. Millions of people who claim to follow a faith based on three beliefs. Because what else do they follow? They support a political party that cuts funding for the poor, opposes universal health care, vilifies the needy and would rather spend money on bombs than on food for the hungry.
They cite Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, while caressing a semi-automatic weapon designed to inflict maximum and often deadly damage on another human being. Somehow, I just don’t think a modified AK-47 would be “Jesus approved.”
And if these people want to continue to call themselves “pro-life” it’s time they start acting as such. Supporting wars, guns and bragging about their state using the death penalty — all while opposing programs that feed the poor, help impoverished children and would give low-income Americans health care, is the exact opposite of “pro-life.”
Because while these right-wing politicians do all they can to infringe on a woman’s Constitutionally protected right to an abortion, claiming that they’re protecting an innocent child’s life, they’re simultaneously supporting bills that would cut funding for health care and food assistance to millions more children who are already here and in need.
The word “hypocrite” doesn’t quite cover this kind of reprehensible behavior.
Then many base a large part of their “Christianity” upon a rejection of homosexuality. I’m sure glad Jesus spoke at length about his disdain for homosexuality.
Oh wait — he never spoke about homosexuality.
Why the hell do these people care so much anyway? Outside of some form of infidelity, when has any kind of consensual sex between adults ever had an impact on anyone’s lives except those involved?
The root of this problem lies in their ignorance about homosexuality being a choice. They really think people who are homosexual chose to be that way. Why would millions of people choose to be something that’s often degraded, judged and denied basic human rights? And if sexuality is a choice, wouldn’t we have more bisexuals instead of homosexuals? Wouldn’t it make sense that more people would choose both instead of just one particular sex?
And if you believe sexuality is a choice, then you believe being straight is a choice. Yet I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who can recall the moment they “chose” to be a heterosexual.
Then of course we have their support for economic policies which clearly favor the rich. Honestly, name one key economic stance Republicans have stood for which didn’t directly benefit the rich and “theoretically” help everyone else?
Didn’t Jesus warn against greed? I believe he said, “Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
Yet, here Republicans sit, the party of the “Christian moral majority” convincing millions that people like the Koch brothers need tax breaks — but we need to cut middle class public jobs.
They’re simply not affordable.
I wonder which plan Jesus would support:
■Giving men worth tens of billions of dollars more.
■Cutting thousands of middle class public jobs Americans desperately need.
Sadly, millions of Republicans actually believe that Jesus would support giving more to the rich. Are these people insane? Honestly for many, I think they’re pretty darn close to it.
After all, isn’t it insanity to create an alternate reality where Jesus Christ, someone who symbolizes charity, love, hope, forgiveness, acceptance and tolerance, is “worshiped” by people who harness such hate, fear, judgement and aren’t tolerant of anyone but those just like themselves?
Oh that’s right, they “hate them gays, pro-abortion folk and go to church every Sunday” — that makes them real Christians.
Spare me.
These people are absolute hypocrites. They don’t know the first thing about that which Christ lived and died for. The only thing they know is what they’re told in whatever church they attend — which is filled with hypocrites just like them.
Now I’m not saying all Republican Christians fall into this category. But it seems a growing number of them do. And it’s these people who make any sensible Republican look insane. Hell, these people make true Christians look insane.
Right-wing radicals who base their whole faith on just three “values” — church attendance, their stance against homosexuality and not supporting abortions.
Just don’t ask them to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless or clothe the needy — you know, some of the key values for which Jesus actually stood.
To them, that’s not Christianity — that’s “evil socialism.”
