I imagine he probably would have been a little freaked out, considering.
Remember, Teddy was in a plane crash in 1964.... probably also "arranged" by the BCE, as he looked more likely (at that point) than Bobby to be a future Presidential candidate, as he had already been in the Senate since running for JFK's old seat.
By the time Chappaquidick happened, they had murdered another one of his brothers, when he looked likely to be the Democratic nominee, and a lot of people (possibly Teddy himself) were looking at him seriously for 1972.
The BCE accomplished their objective that night one way or the other. They didn't succeed in killing Teddy, but they pretty much killed any chance of him ever being President. Which probably killed any real shot of a REAL investigation into the murders of his brothers. Or Mary Jo, for that matter.Eat Us And Smile

All your wacky conspiracy theories aside, Teddy tried to get to her out but the current was too strong. Then he walked back to the party and two other men (can't remember their names) went back down and tried with the same results. These two, ( one was his lawyer) insisted he call the police to report the accident (and none of them did). Which he did not do until nine hours after it happened. Because he had to (wanted to) sober up. If not, that was MV homicide. Simple story really. He got lit, culled MJ from the herd, and was driving down to the beach to most likely bang (or try to) her. The bridge was on a angle to the road (dyke road I believe) and off he went, not hard to figure if you look at the map (and being drunk). Teddys antics were the worst kept secret in MA at that time. The Kennedy's were so intrenched here that only something like that could bring them down. And while it did sink his presidential asperations, it didn't really slow down him being re-elected time and time again.
A very detailed book about the event is A Senatorial Privilege by Leo Damore. I have an original copy and it's very descriptive in that it was very well researched

Fact there. John Jr worked on the Whydah excavation in 84 and while I knew the guys on the project I never really met him, but by all accounts they said he was a really good guy and a hard worker. Not all all what you would expect, or would be the preconceived notion of somebody coming from that background. Shame he died so young.....Chainsaw MuthuafuckaComment
