I knew many WWII vets who were prejudice. They weren't fighting against prejudice. They were fighting because of social pressure. If you weren't in uniform during the war and were an able bodied male you had have better have had a good excuse. I don't think most people thought too deep about what they were actually fighting for and heck the people who were just as prejudice against people of color were prejudice against Germans because the Germans thought they were more superior and were taking over. Some of the people fighting the SS were just a prejudice as the SS were but the SS flew another flag and were on the opposing team.
