The truth is most people signed up for military service to help pay for college. You become a military aviator because you either want to fly fast planes or you want a stepping stone to becoming a commercial pilot. Very few people signed up to actually go to war. But hey, it's follow orders or get punished so it's "yes sir!" Once you get a bunch of people saying "Yes Sir!" in separate compartments ran by psychopathic assholes with ulterior motives, well a lot of shit tends to happen.

It's like Nazi Germany. What did most the killing was the bureaucracy. Right now the US is bureaucracy ran amok. Too many people saying "Yes Sir!" without caring what's out of their little box.
