And I've posted repeatedly that every time the gubment starts screaming gun control, the gun and bullet manufacturers get paid out the ass. The extreme left and the extreme right done want any sensible gun control measures because that would prevent them from using it as a campaign platform.

And no, I don't think a good portion of the people who own guns here should ever even be let within sight of a firearm, much less own one. But every single time one of the politicians says gun control, a million idiots run out and buy ARs and have absofuckinglutely no idea what the weapon's capabilities are, what kind of ammo it takes, what the limitations are, what special considerations one needs to take into account based on the intended use of the weapon, how it functions, how to maintain it, or even how to shoot the goddamn thing! They just say "Ooga booga - big gun make me safe." I have talked to several women who own guns and have never even shot the damn things. In other words - they are fucking morons who would be better off with a can of kick ass pepper spray. But they wouldn't take the time to read the damn instructions on the can in order to use it properly.

One concrete, real world solution would be for states to require new gun purchasers to complete a safety/handling/use course. That could be passed at the state level tomorrow. Most ranges offer them for around a hundred bucks or less. So it wouldn't infringe on anybody's right to own a gun. But it would cut down on the number of ignorant fucks out there going around with guns. Nothing scares me more than being at the range and seeing some goddamn idiot waving their pistol around like a gangsta and laughing and hollerin and blasting away like Dirty Harry. I put my weapon down, grab my kid and go get the fuckin range officer - if he or she isn't already coming in to put a stop to this idiot before he or she kills one of us. Happened not six weeks ago and the range officer made the couple next to me leave after HE confiscated their weapons and unloaded and put chamber flags in all of them. They weren't necessarily bad people - just fucking idiots who have no business owning firearms. And yes, he called the poe lease and documented the whole thing including turning over their names, addresses, and copies of their driver's licenses.

So as much as I love guns, and believe in the Second Amendment, too many people are too stupid to own them. When Harry Callahan said a man's got to know his limitations he was right. But too many people are too stupid to know what they are, especially when it comes to firearms.

We got a week of firearm and hunter's safety training in school. A guy would come in from the fish and game department. It was part of health class. It was a good thing and probably avoided some accidents. Our instructor was excellent.
