The Denver station (as well as other progressive stations in LA, San Francisco, and Portland, among others) was doing very well, so they just pocketed the money and didn't interfere with the message. That all changed when Mittens & Bain Capital took over the company. They started killing the liberal stations immediately, shutting them all down by the beginning of 2012. Or in other words, right before Mittens himself began his official (failed) Presidential campaign.
