As a fellow vet I'm sure you feel the same way I do when some asshole questions your veterans status.

To be quite honest, I really feel more and more people, regardless of race or area of the country you're in, they give less and less of a shit that you (not YOU) served, much less made it a career....

Moreover, I've seen more and more people online question and/or complain about supposed "benefits" given to servicemen, like it's some sort of a handout.

And I really don't know why that is.... Perhaps it's because it's usually the poor that basically must join the military, meaning a lot of minorities, and THAT'S why....

Maybe if more Americans had to serve.... Maybe if more Americans had to kiss their spouse and children goodbye and not see them for 6, 7, or 12 months, and that's if they're lucky to come home at all...

Serving in the military is no cakewalk.... And serving overseas, like I did for nearly 10 years, is downright dangerous in nearly every country in the world now for Americans (and others).... You've really got to watch your back overseas now.... I was nearly killed 3 times in my 20 years by terrorist acts, not because I was the target, but just because I was nearly in the wrong place at the wrong time.....

I just think there is less and less respect for those that serve now than in any time in our history, and that's sad.....

In many other countries including here merely working for the military doesn't automatically get you a pass and huge respect, you still have to earn it like anyone else.

Americans used to believe serving in the military did earn you a certain amount of respect but that changed after Vietnam. But we still have Veterans day and Memorial day to pay respect to veterans and our fallen comrades. Seems odd you don't respect veterans but you still have a monarchy. You respect people just because of their bloodline but serving your country means nothing?

Going on Westpac when I was in wasn't too bad when you were in port. But when we were at sea anything could happen. It was probably as dangerous to get too hammered in Tijuana as any port I visited other than Thailand. We were still doing those Freedom Cruises back then. We cruise just outside of the territorial waters off Vietnam to provoke them into doing something stupid. Dealing with a piss ant country like that would be easy compared to trying to help another country fight a civil war and a lot of our leaders would love to do anything that would make people forget what happened during the Vietnam war. One win and one (perceived) loss is better than one loss and no wins.

I ride but I'm not a biker. I know a few 1%s. Most of them are HA. My hometown is Vago territory. Don't care much for those guys. When a Vago in colors showed up at an HA open house while I was there I split. I've been offered to prospect for some lesser known HA affiliates but I declined. When I lived in East LA the vatos left me alone because my brother was a club rider. It was more of a riding group than an outlaw biker gang but he looked the part.

We weren't allowed to cross the border in uniform while I was there. They loved busting sailors and jarheads across the border. The Navy's attitude towards everything I found fun while I was in makes me think pretty soon sailors won't even be allowed to drink alcohol. Before this dust up with the new guy in he Philippines they weren't even allowed to go into town when they went to Subic. All the bars near 32nd Street are gone. I'm not even sure they still have EM and NCO clubs on base.
