To many alternative places that are better.
It took a long time for the far-ranging effects of eating McDonald's food on a steady basis to impart itself upon consumers. To that end, I can say when growing up in the 1970s, McDonald's wasn't something we or any of my friends ate on even a semi-regular basis. Our parents even then realized what that "food" was, and were very conservative in the amount of times they allowed we kids to cajole them into taking us there. Like, literally if I had it more than a few times a year back in the 1970s I'd be surprised.

That stuff just wasn't - and isn't - designed and produced in a manner to be consumed day after day without imparting some pretty disastrous long-term negative health conditions. People are slowly starting to realize there can be a high cost to eating cheap. And you are 100% correct that McDonald's isn't even all that cheap anymore. People are willing to pay a few bucks more for better food at Five Guys.

McDonald's is trying to adjust and make strategic changes in response to the topping out of their financial performance (and, indeed, a slight decline - not a cratering by any means, but for a company that has pretty much experienced growth year after year for decades even a 1% downturn must be sobering) over the last few years. From offering breakfast sandwiches 24 hours to trying to up their game in McCafe drinks to grab some of the Starbucks market to offering some healthier menu items to at least offer a limited choice of selection. I suppose from an executive management POV there is at least the realization that lumbering onward with the traditional menu will probably not portend well down the line.

I don't know if McDonald's can really remake itself or reposition itself in the broad public mind as anything other than the brand it has built over the last half century and the image that brand name conjures up. They can tweak the edges, but in essence it is what it is. And that's fine as far as it goes, as long as people still want that. The problems will come as more and more people don't. And, as you say, the public are now aware of the many other alternatives to the McDonald's menu: McDonald's isn't the juggernaut it was thirty years ago in terms of being the only game in town when it comes to inexpensive food made quickly, and McDonald's certainly isn't the tastiest.

Yeah, I heard all about that stuff. I disagree with evangelicals inasmuch as there is no God to begin with. I'm for LGBT rights. Neither belief would prohibit me from eating at a Chick-fil-A.

I think the biggest impediment would be that I get high-quality chicken from my local Fresh Market and am capable of (and usually twice a week do) making a great chicken-based meal at home (either grilled, baked or sautéed) for as cheap or less so than anything I can get at a Chick-fil-A, and even though I've never eaten at one it's a given what I make will taste better.

They had one not far from my house. They were alright but So Cal has so many different Mexican food chains and restaurants it would be hard to pick just one as best. Chipotle's, Rubio's, King Taco, Mission Burrito all make good food. The hot ticket for good food of any kind now in a lot of different cities is roach coaches. Some cities in So Cal let them line the streets for blocks on certain nights. Some cities even have live music on Roach Coach night. They have a craft brewer in Lake Charles that has a roach coach night once a month or so with live bands. For cheap Mexican fast food Del Taco isn't too bad. Better than Taco Bell IMO. I can go to Texas for In N Out. What I really miss from So Cal is Tommy's. They have killer chili burgers, chili dogs, chili fries. Carney's in Hollywood serves the same stuff but they charge a lot more.

There are already a ton of Chipotle's here. I've never had it. A ton of Del Taco's too. Again, never had it. Michigan is pretty well known for their coney island hot dogs, and they're a dime a dozen around here. A roach coach would never work in Detroit, at this time.

At Chipotle's they custom make their burritos and tacos. I make a decent homemade version of the Chipotle burrito mixing chopped up canned chicken and Rottelle for the meat. Bush's pinto beans, rice and cheese on a flour tortilla. Del Taco is cheap Mexican fast food but it's edible.

Chipotle's burritos are OK, but I really miss this local place called "Burrito Heaven" which was much better. Sadly they went out of business, and nobody seems to know why. Place was always busy, and everybody in town loved the food there. If they hadn't closed years ago, I would have accused Cheeto of deporting the owners.

I was a big fan of the old school bean and cheese burritos when they still used lard and / or bacon grease in the beans. I usually order tacos, taquitos, flautas, nachos or a taco salad at regular Mexican food joints. I really love Mexican seafood. Rubio's in So Cal sells everything from fish tacos to lobster burritos.

I like to make pork carnitas in a slow cooker. I usually make better Mexican food at home than your average Mexican restaurant but there are a few I go to that are really good. I hear you on the seafood. We went to Cozumel scuba diving and rented these bungalos and they came with maid service and a cook. This Mexican cook took the fish we speared and made some fish tacos out of them. Very good. He cooked over charcoal used lime juice and a few other things. That was a fun trip.

What I like to do is cook up a bunch of stir fry in a big wok I have and then use that for lunches during the week. Just put it in a container and microwave it for lunch. I think the hamburger gets a bad rap. It's a full meal. The problem is how much people are eating. A Texas Whopper is 1,000 calories. Add in the french fries and the soda pop and it's a lot of calories. Now calories aren't bad if you are going to go out and do physical labor but people are eating like a lumberjack and sitting at a desk. I go out and eat and the portions are just obscene. People are just eating too damn much. People used to have a 7 oz. bottle of Coke. Now they drink a 42oz tub of it with a bunch of donuts. The bottom line is fit what and how much you eat to your lifestyle. If you are hauling brick and mixing mortar all day have the big breakfast. If you are sitting at a desk all day, well you have to eat less.

Huge portions and a lazy lifestyle is what is killing Americans. Sugar isn't bad if you don't ingest a ton of it.

My Mom got me this big badass electric wok for a gift. I love it. I'm thinking about getting one of those new electric pressure cookers.

If I eat a burger, I just eat a regular burger, and that's a rarity. I never eat the Whoppers or Big Macs or any of those. I have a weakness for McDonalds fries, but that's the only place I get fries. I don't drink soda pop at all, and haven't for years. I generally drink water, coffee or vitamin water zero.
