Nobody is talking why President Clinton signed the law of separating children from adults. It was to protect the children. People claiming to be parents were actually trafficking children and the children were being molested when kept with adults. In all this media hysteria that was never mentioned and it was a law passed by the congress and signed into law by the president for a good reason. With modern DNA testing parenthood can be verified and families can be reunited. What's ironic is Trump told the congress to change the law if they wanted. The never Trumpers in congress easily could have come up with a veto proof majority but no it's all about making the president look bad. Ironically you have a president saying it's not his responsibility and tells congress to come up with a law. Congress refuses their constitutional responsibility and due to media pressure the president is pressured to act more authoritarian by issuing an executive order. This whole thing has been a joke. Now children are going to be more at risk for being molested and trafficked. All over a political stunt. What's the next one going to be? Trump's approval rating will remain the same and all this will be forgotten in a few weeks. Onto the next pooch screw. No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!Comment

What are you talking about?
There is no federal law that stipulates that children and parents be separated at the border, no matter how families entered the United States. An increase in child detainees separated from parents stemmed directly from a change in enforcement policy repeatedly announced by Sessions in April and May 2018, under which adults (with or without children) are criminally prosecuted for attempting to enter the United States.
A strict new enforcement plan by the Trump administration will mean more parents caught illegally crossing the U.S. border will get prosecuted and separated from any children accompanying them.
"I have put into place a zero tolerance for illegal entry on our southwest border," said Attorney General Jeff Sessions in remarks Monday at the San Diego border. "If you cross the border unlawfully, then we will prosecute you. It's that simple."
Added Sessions, "If you smuggle illegal aliens across our border, then we will prosecute you. If you are smuggling a child, then we will prosecute you. And that child maybe separated from you as required by law."
Sessions said the U.S. Department of Homeland Security would now be "referring 100 percent of illegal southwest border crossings to the Department of Justice for prosecution. We need legality and integrity in our immigration system."Last edited by Seshmeister; 06-20-2018, 05:48 PM.Comment

What's going to happen is a declaration of amnesty won't be accepted at the border. Also instead of jail or holding children just deport them. Then people will be upset about that too.No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!Comment

Cheeto is a criminal and there's no evidence that Malaria ever had sex with him. Does that mean we should lock "his son" Baron up in a cage, because there's "no proof" Cheeto is his father?
That trafficking bullshit is coming straight out of Rupert Murdoch's ass. Or Joey Goebbels Jr. more likely

But here's a simple example that would produce the same result even in your country and most others...
Pack your kids up and drive to a neighboring town. Just you and your kids. Commit a misdemeanor type of crime in the presence of your children which results in you, the adult, being arrested/detained. Do your kids get to accompany you into whatever jail or detainment facility while you are held to be cited, processed and formally charged with your minor crime..?"If you want to be a monk... you gotta cook a lot of rice...”Comment

In your example my kids would not be separated for an unspecified long period of time. I would be out in hours not days or months.
There would almost always be some other person a relative or friend who could and would be called to collect them.
The numbers would be different unless suddenly 2000 people turned up and did the same at the same neighboring town. This is important because they could be carefully looked after not processed into a cage.
And finally the fact a government says something is a crime doesn't make it one morally - what if it was a crime not to wear a large yellow sombrero badge if you were of Mexican descent? It certainly should not be a misdemeanor type of crime to claim asylum and to do so is against international law and treaties the US government has signed.Comment

If you dig deeper than the current, exaggerated media frenzy... the picture is not very clear at all. The amount of separations is less than 10% caught at the border daily. The time of separation predominately is less than 72 hours.
