Homo sapiens go back a minimum of 20,000 years to about 80,000 years.

We have a current recorded history (in the West) of about, what, 6,000 years ago starting with Ancient Sumeria that just pops out of the land with a written language, mathematics, science, astronomy and much more.

10,500 years ago most of the Northern Hemisphere was under a mile of ice and it lasted only 1.6 million years before that boundary line.

There was no ice in Egypt where the Pyramids are located. Odd location.. very old, older than Sumeria, I think. Nix the scholars.

I think we've been at this crossroads before, and to answer your question we build a world back up again.. and again.. and again.

I think it's worthwhile to survive, to build, to learn, and continue so as we are in the face of all odds that can be thrown at the race and thrown at us as individuals.

It's a brave "old" world.

Another thing, about the ice in Egypt. It's quite possible there was ice in Egypt at one time, due to the fact that the Earth could have had a pole shift sometime in the past. That's why Antarctica was at one time tropical. It was farther North than it's present location millions of years ago.
