So, he and other politicians (both for and against) can score political points by stating they are in favor of it or against it.

He is not appointing activist judges any more than other Presidents, they are judges YOU don’t agree with regarding how they interpret the law. What is reprehensible is that the Democrats in the Senate, who are a MINORITY (and they are a minority because that is how the people voted) are, through a procedural trick, blocking a vote, yea or nay, on judicial nominees, making it so that a nominee now needs 60 votes to be approved, not a simple majority which is prescribed by the Constitution.
