I thought Arnold gave a great speech. It was very impressive. Just goes to show you, that if you work hard, you can make something in you life. You don't need the government to help you. Gov. Schwarzenegger is doing a great job in California, and did a great job on his speech.

It's an issue so out of whack it defies logic. My wife is latina, her parents were immigrants who were granted amnesity under Reagan. Her father is now a successful middle class businessman.

The problem with the immigrant situation (and I am a believer in their true rights), is that it is out of control and nobody is willing to admit it, for fear of being called a racist. The school systems, public works, traffic and all sorts of other things are just overwhelmed by it. The latino politicans are trying to throw out these bones like driver licenses that are just pointless and designed to make the immigrants beholden to them.

Why give them a drivers license if they are illegal? What logical purpose does it serve? It's a waste of time and money.

If they were serious about helping immigrants, they would close the border up tight (which is helpful for us as well, obviously) and would allow immigrants to apply to come here at a certain clip every year and get on a track to get their citizenship. That's what the deal says on paper, but it isn't the way it works. They should be allowed all legit services a citizen has, pay taxes and all that during this transistion. It should also be illegal to come here and have a baby, then the next day apply for a visa for you and family, as it would be a "hardship" on the US citizen baby to be away from his family (a popular move in the Asian Population).

This would allow them to move into american society quicker and without the fear of being found out, having to live a secret life. Until the politicians get that straight, we are all just blowing smoke.

The other half of the immigrant equation is to truly put pressure on Mexico to get their house in order, which would stem the tide to begin with. A lot of immigrants come here cause they have no choice, leaving families behind and wiring money from each paycheck home. That's no way to live, with your wife and kids far away. Pressuring Mexico and working with their economic and education system would be a great help. A long winded response, but it is something I am passionate about.
