The amp sounds great, just wondering what others are out there.

I think they're still up and running (well you can still buy from their web site anyhow). Personal preference though, if your running EL34's I would look for something similar to the old Sylvania 6CA7's (a more heavy duty version of an EL34).

Svatlanas work for me as well. From what I understand, all of the new EL-34's come out of Russia now. Other companies buy them, relabel them and sell them. Of course the more reputable companies thoroughly test and match the good tubes and toss the ones who don't pass the quality inspection. You still get what you pay for.

For the money Svatlanas are hard to beat.

As far as I can tell Groove Tubes are very much still in business.

Svetlana, their American headquarters are right here where I live..in fact I go to church with one of the top dogs. They used to be called Audio Glassic. I don't know if THEY are still in business though...I guess I should ask this Sunday. LOL

I've used both...I like the Svetlanas better, but that might be more of a personal bias than anything. I can't say I've ever had any problems using Groove Tubes either.

                  I haven't re-tubed in a while..although I probably should.

When I had the head serviced, I was told by the Marshall service dudes
that Groove tubes were no longer available. Perhaps its only in Oz ???
Perhaps they only stocked Svetlanas. But I got the impression that
they were no longer making Groove tubes..

But, hell if BS1 says they are still around, I'd put my house on it !

                        What I was gonna say!

Personally, I just stuff the cheapest tubes I can get into my Marshalls, and them have the amp properly biased by a tech who happens to be my best friend. Therefore he biases the amps perfectly and I don´t have to pay a cent for it!

I've heard bad things about the Sovtek EL-34's from several people. I like their 5881 tubes though. They last a long time too.
