I believe a recessed would like a low pro or something so that it is a little more egronomically correct. I think locking trems are like a floyd rose and a floating trem is more like a standard fender trem. I would choose locking just to make sure you get a floyd though.

A recessed floyd and a standard one both do the exact same thing though.

A recessed Floyd installation is where wood is milled away to give the bridge more up movement. In other words, so you can pull notes up higher. If the bridge is floating but not recessed, the back of the bridge hits the body wood. Recessed Floyd installation is also used to lower the height of the bridge. Some players like Steve Vai like a lower profile.

If you are using a D-Tuner on your Floyd, you don't want a floating or recessed installation because the thing won't work. For Van Halen stuff the best way to have your Floyd installed is non recessed and non floating.

        Nitro to save the day!

I might as well delete my post because it will probably confuse the hell out of people...lol.

Anyways I have a Ibanez Edge low pro which is a decent trem. Sometimes its fun to pull the bar up but this little feature makes it a headache to set up. Once it is set up though it stays in tune well. I would imagine a real floyd would do the job a little better too.

Good luck with that axe you are building!

You're all wrong on this ya know ...

Floating means you can go down and up whereas Reccesed you can only go down ...

Floating you can scream n reccesed means you can't ... floating you lose all that but GAIN a tool neccesary

Reccesed for more tonality and stability by 2 screws by the bridge ...

To float her start raising those screws and the 2 in the back holding the springs a half a frett till you raise her a whole note ... my style though is a half more than that ...

Eyes, actually you are the one who is mistaken.

Nitro is correct in his description. A FLUSH MOUNT bridge is one that you cannot pull up on.

Recessed simply means the body wood under the bridge has been milled away. Actually, you could have a flush mounted, recessed bridge if you wanted the guitar set up that way. Of course this would mean deepening the neck pocket and lowering the pickups. Like I said, Steve Vai likes his guitars set up with a low bridge profile. When he was playing homemade Strats in the old days, he used to use a piece of high density foam to rest his hand on. Then he just started recessing the bridge. For details on Floyd Rose options I suggest going to Warmoth.com. They cover it all over there.
