Avatar cabs are excellent...in fact I'm going to buy one soon for my Plexi project. That dude will hook you up, plus he's got those Hellatone speakers, which are Celestions that he breaks in for you.
I dig the distortion channel feature on the newer Backlines, smooth overdrive built right in, even at lower volumes. + if money is an issue, you get a lot of amp for around $300.00

This one on ebay is a little high at $250 buy it now...

I've had three of them over the years, all great...

I paid $100 for each of mine...

I hope you are kidding Elvis. You don't want the boy to get laughed at do you? I will say one thing for Peavey amps, they are usually louder than hell....but the tone, bleh!

Redball, why not get a combo, and add the extra speaker cab later when you can save up some more money? You can get one of the GK Backlines with 2x10's for $470. 10 inch speakers are the way to go anyway.

I'm not kidding, A peavey MK IV sounds better than any GK amp, and way better than any Behringer crap...

It also sounds better than any solid state Ampeg...

They also make better bass overdrive than many tube amps...

Sound better than a GK? Dude I've heard those Mark IV amps...and I have to disagree wholeheartedly. Also, while I'm not a big fan of the solid state Ampegs I did hear their BA500 combo amp and there is no way in hell that Hartley ever made a bass amp that sounded that good.

Every GK amp I have ever heard sounded like crap...

Nothing but low end with not a chance for overdrive...

There's one here sitting in a pawn shop for $100...

It can sit there forever as far as I'm concerned...

Maybe it's just my prefrence for overdriven bass tones...

I casn get a good growling bass tone from my MK IV...

              I run it into a 2-10 and an 18...

Sounds great with my Jazz Bass!

See I don't run 15's or 18's on bass...only 10's. I get plenty of mid growl, without having flabby bottom end. I don't know what models you've played, but I've got all the high end you'd want. I have no trouble getting some overdrive sound...but it isn't a Jack Bruce type of distortion. Not my cup of tea...

Yeah, I like that Jack Bruce / Noel redding midrange growl...

I also get a very nice ZZ Top rumblin' sound...

I use my ADA MP1 guitar preamp into my Bass rig for a geddy Lee type sound...

I also have a Behringer Bass V-Amp pro that is neat...

I'm endorsing the Peavey as well.

As much shit as Peavey gets for being shitty aside, Those Mark IVs and the Classic 50 guitar amp are top notch.

The stereo chorus 400 on the other hand.... I'll give you one if you want to drive to Cincinnati to pick it up. I just want the damn thing outta my house.
It's a shame that families should be torn apart by something as simple as....wild dogs
