Decent 4x12 cabs that don't cost an arm and a leg

My Nephew wants a 4x12 cab and his budget is $500. He wants to buy new.

I personally use a Marshall 4x12 for with 25 watt speakers and have been happy. Of course this is out of my nephews price range.

Can anything good be had for $500 that's new? I'm trying to talk him into saving up and just get a Marshall because you buy them once and they sound great. If he buys a piece of fiberboard shit for $200 he's just wasted his money.

He's in a band and they actually made $2000 playing at a car show over a weekend. No bad for a bunch of guys doing it for fun. They now have to have a little more omf. He's playing a Sovtek Mig 60 but he wants to upgrade to 100 watts sometime.

I've heard some good things about Avatar Speakers. They let you choose from several different tolex, grille cloth, and speaker types. Check out the G412 Custom cabinet, and you'll see what I mean. $439+ $49 shipping. Not bad for a 4x12.

He likes the Sovtek amp. It's a old amp of mine I sold to him. I really don't think he's going to go ultra high gain. They play a little bit of everything. Classic rock, punk, 90's stuff.

They have found out that "Born to Be Wild" and "Loui Loui" are money makers, so they have a lot of those oldie but goody songs people like to hear.

Wow. His dad has vacation property in northern Idaho and that is where they make the Avatar speakers. He could go right to the factory and check them out. The price is pretty reasonable.

Probally all over the place in the LA area but harder to find in Idaho. I'm trying to convince the kid he should buy a used Marshall but he wants new. You know you have a good one if it reeks of cigarette and pot smoke, has stickey beer spills on it, the vynle is torn and some of the screws on the back cover are missing.

Behringer's BG412S. It's a decent cab, if not one of the best in it's price range...
Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

You might get a used Marshall cab for 350 bucks, but what speakers are in them? G12T75 Celestions suck asshole.

What about the Peavey 5150 cab? Hartley Peavey said the Sheffield speakers are 25 watts and the cab was copied from an old Marshall cab with Celesian Greenbacks that Eddie just loved. Apparently that was the cab he recorded a lot of VH tracks with over the years with.

I know Peavey imported Baltic birch plywood to build the cabs with.

Hey I got my mid-70s Marshall cab for $325, and it was signed on the inside by Jim Marshall!

3 out of the 4 speakers were original 25-watt BLACK back G12s from 1976-1977, and the replacement speaker was a 65-watt G12 from the early 80s.
