    What was your first amplifier?

Mine was some old tube stereo amp that the power tube plates glowed orange (didn't know about biasing in those days). They were like EL-84 tubes and not the bigger 6L6 tubes. I would just plug the guitar into one channel and run a homemade speaker with a 10 inch Radio Shack speaker. Actually, it sounded pretty good. Then I got a solid state Radio Shack stereo amp and it sounded like shit. I went back the the tube amp. LOL!

My first real guitar amps was a tube powered silver faced Fender Champ. Wish I still had it.

Then I got a solid state Marshal Lead 12. Wish I still had that one too. It was built like a tank and for solid state, sounded good.
No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!

Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

I remember Heathkit. I built a few Heathkits in the 70's with my dad.

My first amp was a Peavey Backstage Plus. This was back in '86. For Christmas that same year i got a Boss Heavy Metal distortion pedal. In the brochure it was different settings for different sounds, and one was the solo for Beat It played by EVH! Of course i didn't get the sound with a Peavey 35 watt and that pedal, but i was hooked on Van Halen! Great!

A $50 Gorilla Amp. I was so happy that I didn't have to play through my stereo anymore. Some time later I moved up to a Fender Reverb 25. Small, but pretty damn cool.

My first amp was a Peavey Bandit. Spent most of my teens trying to get the Van Halen 1 sound out of it. Fat chance, but I could not afford a Marshall stack so you deal with what you got. Now that I think back it was a pretty cool amp and sounded great with the help of the old MXR distortion box. I tried every distortion pedal on the planet with that amp. Now that I think about it , all the money I spent on distorion pedals, I probably could have purchased a Marshall Stack. LOL LOL.
