    Ibanez Paul Gilbert PGM301

I bought that Jackson Dinky(See the thread I posted about that). Also in the guitar shop they had a Paul Gilbert PGM 301. I didn't ask the guys in the shop about it as they cost like 800 pounds(Uk money). So I bought the Jackson instead....

Well, I went to the guitar shop the next day(Last Sunday) and asked them how much money it was.......

I couldn't believe it.......550 pounds used(With a Prestiege case included). They wanted 450 for the Jackson I bought and they took 400 so I said to them I'll give you 500 for the PGM.......Let me try it out.

I did try it out and WOW!!! It is Fantastic!!! It is completly different to any guitar I have owned.

It has a fixed bridge. Dimarzio pickups and a 24 fret maple fingerboard and Jumbo frets.

The neck on it is "Very Wide" is the best way I can describe it. The pickups are mounted directly to the guitar body(Like Eddie does with his guitars).

Here is a picture of it!

The one thing that I really like about the guitar is that it don't have a trem so you can tune it down to E flat or drop D tuning without messing about with all of the shit of a locking trem.

The Pickups in it are really nice sounding as well. :D

I gave the guys a deposit for it on Friday. It is too much of a good guitar at a good price to not buy.

    :D

That sounds like a real steal. I've wanted to play one of those for a while but I think I'd prefer the 300 with the trem.

I finally paid for the PGM on Firday.

Wow!!!! The PGM is a seriously good Instrument. It has the "Killer Tone". It's old School Van Halen/Yngwie vibe. The instrument is a sustain monster !

I am that much into the tone it has that I am going to get the same pickups it has for my Jackson Dinky.

There's more.......The neck on it is damn near perfect.

I have slight OCD when it come s to guitars and playing guitars.

They need to be as near to perfect as possible Tone and playing wise.

The Wideness of the neck is beautiful for bending notes. Like I said it in the first post about this guitar it is hard to describe the neck.

When I bend a note a whole step it just feels right(The amount I have to bend the string to get it the whole step).

Honestly you would have to play one of these guitars to understand what I mean about the neck on it.

The thing is light as fuck. Then you consider I paid 500 for it used and it is in perfect condition, I checked the price online. It new 850 here new(I am not sure if that is with the case or not). I got a real bargain.

Yeah, I've tried a couple of those. Very nice necks, pretty sure it's a 1 3/4" nut width, like I use on all my mutt guitars...:D
I'd be surprised if it was only 1 11/16ths...Great if you have large hands, I pretty much can't use anything else.
But the PGMs, they're little shred machines...just not a huge Ibanez fan myself.
          Congrats on the score, though!

When I bought my first Peavey Wolfgang I tried everyone the store had. They had two that had a Les Paul Tune-O-Matic styles bridge on them and the rest had Floyd Rose type trems set up to be non floating.

The Tune-O-Matic Wolfgangs sustained like you wouldn't believe! Then when I played the Floyd equiped ones, they seemed to not sustain worth shit in comparison. All of them. I still bought the Floyd equipped model because I wanted the wiggle stick. Those non-trem Wolfies were great sounding guitars though.

I'm sure a hardtailed Ibanez would bet more sustain than one with a trem on it as well.

The Injun Ibanez' play very well !! I just bought an RG for my gf's kid & the thing rips!!

If it were mine, I'd pop in some EMG's, or even Duncan's, at least in the bridge p/u....

My daily player (a number of others come out rarely..) is still my IBZ early 80's XV 500!

IMO pickups have always been the company's weak spot.

I don't like the Wolfgangs at all. I played one years ago....wasn't happening for me.

The necks on them are nasty like a really cheap ass Squire Strat. The Musicman Van Halen guitars.....I never played one of them but I know they are very Decent guitars. They had a Gotoh Locking Trem(Which are very good quality trems) and they had Dimarzio pickups.

The only pickups I like are Dimarzio's. I have an old Ibanez body here with a Set of EMG's(an EMG 89 and 2 SA's).

And when I say EMG's, I mean "REAL" EMG's. They are fantastic pickups but sound like garbage thru my soldano.

The soldano like Low or Medium pickup's only. High gain pickups and that soldano don't work well together.

As for the sustain of the PGM.......

                Fucking incredible......The notes stay there.

The whole thing with guitars and amps etc. it is a very personalised thing. Some guitars suit certain people and not others.

                  Congrats on a great guitar!

I've played one, and it sounds great with the Dimarzio's. Very clean sounding even if you play with a lot of gain.
The only thing i didn't like was the neck, because it was too thin for me. But other than that, the guitar is great!

That's a good way to describe it...

I've referred a few friends to these guitars in the past...

I'm not a big Ibanez fan but these are particularly nice in every way. I can't find a single fault in any one i've tried other than i've never seen a lefty...

                    They look cool as well...

My favorite guitar is the Ernie Ball Axis. Never bought the VH model because they were hard to find and $$$$$$. So I guess that's why I bought a Wolfgang but I like mine. It's a black archtop.

I like the Fender U shaped neck. Give me a Fender U with a 9 inch radiouse and I'm happy. I don't need compound radiouse.

I don't get EMGs. Those Dimarzios should sound great. I think the PGMs come with PAF Pro/Tone Zones and the middle single is a JEM single coil. I wouldn't replace them.

I think a lot of people put too much thought into replacing the pickups that come in guitars. It's like a placebo effect. They think what they got can be better and they put new pickups in and expect it to sound better and (usually) they think they hear something better.

I just bought an old Charvel model 3 and I can't believe the harmonics and tone I got out of the stock pickup. Normally I put a Dimarzio Tone Zone in my guitars but I really dig the stock J90 (i think) it came with.

I probably jammed Super D's or Duncan's into over 30 body's since the late 70's... Then I discovered active p/u's /w ceramic magnets!

The ultra wide aperture poles relult in a fat assed tone with lightening fast attack. Oh, and unless we're playing a MAJOR gig, I don't even use a noise gate!! The 81/85 set is the quietest p/u combo I've played... & I'm usually playing through either a '90 Dual Rectifier or a '78 JCM 800, which ain't historically the most cooperative of amps!!

There's even a major difference just playing through the fuckin POD!

                              um..no, I don't work for EMG...
